If you do wrap the handle, the instructions give you a good start but at the end of the wrap you may be scratching your head on how to finish it. I loosened up the left side final loop and passed the right tag end trough it and loosened up the right side final loop and passed the left tag end through it and snuged it down real good. Total perfection. When you get there, you'll see what I mean

If you are using in wet environments, I'd opt for a G10 handle, or any other material than micarta with cloth embedded. It soaks up moisture, and if used for gutting deer or processing game I think this knife would get disgusting quick. Nothing you couldn't take care of by disassembling and cleaning thoroughly, but who wants to do that all the time?

So I couldn't keep it, I had to return it. I feel like trying to remove it from the sheath would possibly result in me cutting myself it's so tight. I'd probably consider an ESEE product in the future if they made a better sheath, or if it wasn't for daily carry.

The things I don't like aren't deal killers on this knife. The coating on the blade doesn't allow for use as a striker for flint or a ferro rod. I might strip it and patina the blade instead, but I have other striker options so that can wait. My bigger complaint is with the sheath

The BK 14 seems to have a less fine grained steel than the Izula 2, I could not get the BK Shaving sharp but with the same tools I can get the Izula 2 sharper than shaving sharp, wicked sharp? As sharp as my Mora can get. The Izulas sharpness is likely due to its Rowens heat treatment ESEE has. Weight: the Izula 2 w/ handle scales is less than the BK 14 without handle scales. Fit and finish: MY BK14 has uneven edge grinding getting worse at the tip and was missing blade coating in several very small spots

I love these knives. ESEE makes knives that are tough, functional, and look good, all without breaking the bank. I have used a lot of knives. I have many more expensive and many less

And the reason I had to take away a star, the heat treat is actually inferior to my $10-$20 mora knives. Those things hold an edge to rival the best razor blades and do so for a damn long time. This knife will open a few boxes, cut the jacket in on a few wires, cut a few pull strings on CAT6 and need to go back to the strop.

Was planning on replacing sheath with a kydex sheath but this plastic one is very tight without a rattle. Perfect neck knife and can really tell difference in 1095 steel compared to cheap china 440cn.

So the blade itself is pretty good the sheath for it is also good material overall well-built knife only issue I had with it is that the stone wash or the acid that was used for the stone wash is strong and it lingers around the blade which causes it to smell. I’ve tried cleaning it with baking soda to neutralize the smell but I see no results I ended up sanding it and painting over the stonewash finish to keep it from smelling. I would recommend the other choices they offer not the stone wash finish.
