Epson SureColor P700 vs Epson EcoTank ET-3850

For what this printer costs and the cost of ownership. The quality for anything other than hugh pictures is wasted. Also the time it takes to print a small picture is at least 5 times slower at receiving the data just to start the print. (HP 3750 printed 5 pages, as good a quality, to the P7900)

The ink costs on the Workforce Pro 3820 are significant. I would take that one off your list unless you want to pay $20-40 for each color ink cartridge.

5x11 award certificates in black and white, 100-200 a week, so it needs to be reliable. The best option I've seen is the Epson P700, $800, which seems kinda overkill for a certificate. Thanks!

Ideally, Epson would give its users more ink choice by offering higher-yield alternatives to the 25ml ink cartridges. But even there, it's hard to be anything but impressed looking at the P700 versus the older P400. The latter lists for a couple of hundred dollars less, but it uses only eight inks that come in 14ml cartridges. And it has virtually no control panel to speak of, let alone a graphical display

the one they sent was defective & they replaced it -- ok, that's good. BUt in the process of proving that the first one was defective (it wouldn't charge the ink), I went through all the little starter ink cartridges AND most of a full set of my own new ink cartridges, and also a full "maintenance" cartridge that collected all the wasted ink from those new cartridges. They refused to reimburse me for this expense related to their defective unit. Mostly I've had great experience with Epson over the years, but this time it was not good

Epson's higher-end EcoTank printers have replaceable waste cartridges ("maintenance boxes"), so you don't end up having to call for service or replace the whole machine due to internal ink pads filling up. Be sure to check the specifications to make sure this is the case, as less expensive models don't have this feature.

I received a broken unit, during setup it fed all the pigment through and into the collection cartridge, emptying $500 in pigment in a few minutes. After this I contacted Epson support and was told this printer was not covered under their warranty in the US and that I had to return it to the seller. I am so lucky to have found that out before the return window closed as this would be an absolute nightmare to deal with.
