 It's not super short, we're not slalom short, but I like that turn radius for a ski like this because it just gives you a more, just more rewarding experience, in my opinion. You know, if we're not in a race course and we're not shaving like milliseconds off of our race times, it doesn't matter, you know. The goal of a ski like this is to have fun, to give yourself that rewarding skiing experience and having a kind of shorter turn radius just means the ski is going to come across the fall line a little bit more easily, just feel a little bit more responsive, a little quicker. I like that

 It kind of does that with a carving mentality, like no matter what the snow conditions are or how soft it is, it's always going to kind of lean towards the carving side of the spectrum. But I think what's great about it is it allows you to ski with that style kind of no matter what the conditions are. So say you get some fresh snow, say the groomers are kind of chopped up at the end of the day, this ski won't get bogged down. You're less likely to boot out if you're at a high edge angle because you've got a little bit more width underfoot

 Super, super fun ski. You know, it's kind of squarely in that mid-80 all-mountain category, but with its shape and its overall feel, to me, it leans kind of towards the carving side of the spectrum. So if you love carving and you have pretty high demands as a carving skier, this is a great choice, especially for somebody who doesn't want the limitations of a narrower race-like ski or something in the low 70s or something like that. This Wingman 86 CTI will handle a nice wide range of snow conditions

 From a shape perspective, this ski, or the Wingmans in general, kind of looking at shape is maybe where we see the biggest departure from Ripsticks. We do have longer camber in these Wingman skis, and not quite as much tip rocker, although hopefully you can see on camera that we do have a decent amount of tip rocker up here. It starts about where my hand is. Kind of the big thing here is we don't have any early taper

 Hey skiers, I'm Jeff from SkiEssentials.com.

 Today we're talking about the Elan Wingman 86 CTI.

 This is essentially the flagship model of the Wingman line.

 It's the widest, it's got all the technology, and it's just so, so much fun to ski.

 One of my favorite kind of mid-80 all-mountain carver skis.

 Just a tremendous ski, extremely rewarding.

 I think Elan's done a great job, both with the Wingman and the Ripstick line.

 And there is some similarities between the two.

 So to start, we use a tubelight wood core in this ski, and then we get this titanal

 laminate that's actually asymmetrically designed.

 So that's something that's kind of important to Elan's manufacturing and whole concept

 So this is the right ski, which means you get more metal along the inside edge.

 You can kind of see there's no metal over here, just positioned along the inside edge.

 It is full width underfoot, and then kind of does the same thing in the tail.

 So you get that strong metal feel on the inside of your outside ski, which is kind of the

 And then we also get carbon rods in this ski.

 Those carbon rods, the three-dimensional application of carbon provides more vibration damping

 than just about any other use of carbon we've ever seen.

 It pretty much mimics the feel of metal.

 It doesn't have quite all the properties of metal.

 Kind of probably the biggest thing I would point out is you can achieve a softer flex

 pattern by using the carbon rods, where metal often stiffens a ski quite a bit.

 So we do have both in this ski, and that means we do get a pretty stiff flex pattern, but

 And I just really like those carbon rods.

 We could probably spend like 20 minutes just talking about carbon rods.

 They have energy, they have responsiveness, they have that reactive feel that we get from

 carbon, but the ski itself is smoother with more vibration damping.
