Edifier S1000MKII vs Sony HT-A9

I've been really impressed with the Edifier s1000 mkii, extremely practical and well rounded speakers for the price, the fidelity and detail leaves very little to be desired. I have also not heard a bad word about the 1850s and 1700s which apparently are better suited for near field listening and probably more suited to your budget.

Before buying, I watched pretty much every HT-A9 review video on YouTube so had very high hopes regarding sound quality and the Atmos effects/spatial audio performance. I also read the majority of BestBuy reviews that mentioned the audio drop issues and speakers dead on arrival so was a bit worried also. Thankfully, all speakers worked great out of the box and the syncing process between the hub, sub, and 4 satellites were automatic - setup was extremely easy. I was prompted for an update during the setup (~5 mins) that included Sony’s latest firmware that supposedly fixed the audio drop issues

They look nice. They are heavy as hell, and seem solid. But the materials aren’t amazing. The wood is an excellent fake

Imho no, it will be immersive but not great. However, everyone is different and if you weren't using a sub before it won't be a problem most likely. I used the HT-A9 without the sub for 2 weeks (since it was out of stock in my country) and while it was really immersive, it really lacked the "wow" factor the you would expect from such a product (especially considering it's price).

** You want consumer-oriented powered speakers, that have connections and controls that are suited for use with consumer equipment. If you can go up to the $300ish range, I would suggest looking at the nicer Edifier models—maybe the S1000mkII if you can find it locally, or maybe something in the R1850 or R2000 series. These guys aren't tiny, but they produce great sounds that fills a small living room nicely. Probably best about them is that they don't require a receiver and can be added to your TV, computer, or record player. The Bluetooth features work way better than expected and produce rich and clear sound from a phone or laptop. My only gripe there is that there isn't much security on the speakers, so really anyone could use it if it's turned on

Sure, some of them sound good but I wanted something that sounded great and wouldn't take up my entire living room. Enter the HT-A9 with the SA-SW5. I'll admit it.

You'd need 2-2.5x your budget for a speaker with really good bass and that's with the Edifier S1000MKII or S1000DB model. With max 200$, I speculate that any smaller speakers like your Megaboom 3 will disappoint bass-wise. Bigger hardware and within-budget Monster SuperStar could be good

It lives up to that rating. I use it only with Bluetooth and my iPad or iPhone. I have it about seven feet high, on top of a wide cabinet in the living room and control it with the little remote control. It’s important to remember that it can only connect to one source at a time, and it doesn’t automatically disconnect, so if you connect it to your iPhone, then find you can’t connect with your iPad, go back to your iPhone and disconnect that first

Oh so tempting, a bit steep on price. I went to the Sony website to check it out to discover the only way to connect is wirelessly or hdmi. That leaves out my older equipment. For the cost Sony could have included an optical and digital coax
