The front zippered compartment is really the only separation from the deep dark bucket of the main compartment. The pen organization mentioned in the description does not work well, as it's attached to the side with the laptop sleeve, and is very flimsy. One of the pockets is too small for me to get my hand into to reach the bottom. I've taken to carrying a smaller zippered pouch inside my backpack for small items (gum, lipstick, etc), so they don't end up lost on the bottom of the bag and smooshed

I think I speak for a lot of owners that if the build quality was improved, I would gladly pay more money for it. It's a really nice bag. But it's just not durable to handle the 5 days a week, heavy commute.

As simple as that may seem that missing feature has me considering returning the bag. For my office setting, I need a briefcase (optics/professionalism)(I know, yay, corporate America), so that shoulder strap would be awesome, also carrying the briefcase by the handle, takes away the usage of whatever hand I am using to carry the bag. This could have been better if it had a Shire like metal clip or a standard Timbuk2 clip. And finally 2 things I don't like. First, the top strap to the clip doesn't move well and so I had to use two hands to make it tighter or loosen it. Cons: It was much heavier than my old backpack, and the amount of padding seems excessive for the size of the bag. It also did not fit fully under the seat for any of my international flights on the trip, so I ended up resting my feet on top of it. I'm short, so this wasn't too bad, but would likely be an issue for taller travelers. I didn't really want to use it on the flight home and was just going to take my purse, but it was so bulky (even empty!) it didn't fit in my suitcase

* Constraints: close to (but under) 25,26L. Really, the main constraint is that I find backpacks that are > 18.5" tall usually look too big on me. Also, at this point in my life I mostly not doing multi-week backpacking travel anymore, and if I really need to one-bag/backpack a larger load (30+L) then I have an Osprey \~40L pack that I can easily under pack and compress
