Charcoal Grill / Smoker under $1k get the Masterbuilt Gravity Series 1050 with optional griddle insert

I have already modified the damper on the hood to close all the way. Now I have to modify the two side dampers to seal up completely so I can smother the coals a little more to reduce the inside heat. With just a few coals this thing gets around 500 degrees. So it does burn very efficiently

Probably from stacking on top/each other in some slow boat from the China. The grill can be temper mental to start, but once you find the right sequence to ignite the charcoals, this grill is money! Temp holds around your target, bounces up and down, as fan switches on/off to keep the heat moving through the grill box. Smoked brisket flat, hamburger patties, Salmon, and steaks within a week. Awesome

I seem to go through more charcoal with this grill than with other grills I have owned, and it doesn't seem to retain heat as well. The removable ash pan is a bit cumbersome to empty, and doesn't feel very sturdy. I do like the features of the sliding cooking grates and the crank handle which will raise or lower the coals from the cooking surface. Both are very convenient features

The app is very hand (when it works), but it needs some serious development. A buggy app is one thing, but it's appalling that an entire product with so much marketing material focused on the smart connectivity doesn't actually work half the time. Luckily, this grill has a lot going for it aside from the app/connectivity. It's a beautiful grill, feels very solid, and a pleasure to grill on

(3) The material used for the DG is thinner steel than is used in the Outlaw, so in general it won't last as long, especially given my biggest complaint, which is... (4) The tray that is meant to catch the ashes, about 1" deep covering the entire bottom of the grill, fills with water every time it rains (I have not yet tried to rig up a cover for the chimney which does not fully close

their build quality has always been less than stellar. Yet, this product checked a lot of boxes for me so I decided to give them a shot. (Usually would've been a hard pass but a Wifi/BT temp controlled gravity-fed charcoal cooker was very intriguing

Just pulling out the ash tray and toss it out. Access to Fire Box: Getting to the charcoals is so much easier with this than my old Okalahoma knockoff. The firebox lid is one easy access point, but the grills themselves are designed to slide around so you do not have to take them off to add new coals (though you may have to move your food around). Overall Ultimately it is light years a head of my old Grill for a decent price even with the gasket and Food Grade Sealant modifications

How well does it work?: In general - pretty darn good. Because it does such a good job regulating the temperature via the fans, it's hard to mess up on this. It blows through fuel quicker than I'm used to, but that's because its fans are adding oxygen at almost all times, as opposed to ceramic smokers that sort of smolder slowly. Worth it for the ease of use
