The next gen X-Mid 1P is also a lot more spacious than the Hornet 1, and more stormworthy with a full coverage fly (extends to the ground) rather than a high cut one, so basically with the X-Mid you get a shelter that is more spacious, durable, featured, and stormworthy for about the same weight because it uses trekking poles.

Instant up tents suck and have bad reviews for a reason. They are heavy, have huge pack sizes and lack mesh walls for breathability. Most are also single walls and have condensation problems. Big differences on the Big Agnes vs the Marmot is going to come down to vestibule space vs floor space and peak height. The Marmot has superior floor space at 93sq ft vs 87 on the Big Agnes.

High peak height, simple design and doormat are nice touches. Peak height is 80". I would consider the Marmot Halo 6p or the Marmot Torreya 6p and the Nemo Wagontop 6p or 8p as well in your search. The Marmot Limestone 8p would also be a solid buy if you need more space for people or gear, but the peak height is lowered to 77"

Also site selection is important. If you can pitch this between trees rather than in the open that will be better. This will have the trees act as wind screens and should provide some more protection. If you need a family camping tent in the wind then I would suggest something more storm worthy like the REI Base Camp 6p, Marmot Halo 6p, Big Agnes Mad House, Sierra Designs Nomad, MSR Habbitude etc

I descended from Flume into [the notch that leads to Mount Liberty]([URL REMOVED] (elev. 4,439 feet) and picked up my pace considerably as I was soaking wet and wanting to snag a tent site before the campsite got too full.
