Since the spatula is one piece there has to be something to keep the handle from getting floppy I suppose but the weight is too much. If you have issues with your hands I would skip this product. I bought it because America's Test Kitchen recommended it but if I had picked it up in a store I would have selected something else. The free gifts they send when your register it are OK but I have better measuring spoons and cups in my kitchen already

It's a case though of trading on the good name of Wusthof to charge probably double what it's really worth and using a POM (Polyoxymethylene) handle that is not heat resistant. I made the mistake, as have others, of leaving the spatula in the frypan with the handle resting on the edge, and it left a permanent line or groove where the plastic melted a bit by resting on the hot edge. You can find fish spatulas of good if not better quality by many other manufacturers for much, much cheaper than what this spatula is selling for. In fact, why settle for a POM handle which will melt, just get one with a wooden handle and avoid that problem
