 I’m no audiophile but I prefer a warmish sound with a more up-front Bass than the Denon was able to provide. I’m not talking heavy Bass here, I listen to mostly alt-folk and acoustic. I tried it with a variety of artists Including Vampre Weekend, Rising Appalachia, billie Eilish, Two-feet, Emancipator, Emerso Lake and Palmer, and some world music (Anour Brahemm Ablaye Sissoko and more). The Denon failed to reflect the Bass produced by other amps

 If you like crisp, clear instrument separation and prefer the Bass to be pushed back then there is something you will probably find good in the Denon at this price point, but if you like a warmer more up-front sound with a richly toned Bass then you may be sadly disappointed with this amp.

Don’t get me wrong, the Denon provides a feature filled package, including digital inputs, bluetooth and the ability to bypass the digital circuitry for a true analog sound. At the price it delivers clear and somewhat crisp rendition of digital sound with reasonable width and separation of the instruments. Where it let me down was in the soundstage depth. It’s flatish and lacking a presence, with no sound pushing forward into the room

 It was apparently under powered to drive the Bass section of my old Mission 753 towers. Other amps in the price range like the NAD C316BEE v2 had no problem pushing out the Bass. If you like crisp, clear instrument separation and prefer the Bass to be pushed back then there is something you will probably find good in the Denon at this price point, but if you like a warmer more up-front sound with a richly toned Bass then you may be sadly disappointed with this amp.

Lacking the Bass

My problem is that I was using a Denon PMA-600NE amplifer to drive them (outputs 70W per channel at 4 ohms, can output to speakers between 4 and 16 ohms) - it was wayyy too loud. Like, with the volume knob starting at 7 o'clock, by 8 o'clock it was comfortable listening volume. 9 o'clock was far too loud. The main issue with this was that before 9 o'clock on the dial, there was some serious channel imabalance

Hello, I’ve been thinking to get a powered speaker that goes around 400$-600$ per speaker im planning to get a pair.  Is the ev zlx 15p a good speaker to get a pair of it (2 speakers) 

Mainly i will be using the speakers for djing outdoors and indoors and playing (house music or electronic music/ french house music). I want a 15 inch speaker with good             quality/clearance  ,  if theres any recommendations other than the ev zlx 15p  that would be great

I'm totally blind and going for my first real hi-fi setup i’m based in the UK with a budget of about £1000 but I’m prepared to go slightly over that. I have decided the amp will be the quad audio venna 2 play as it is compact tactile and has a good amount of connections. What I'm not sure about is the speaker choice ideally the whole set up will fit on one table both amp and speakers. For my speaker choice I'm thinking the Dali Oberon 1, I would like something with good bass response as I'm listening to a lot of electronic music. I'm also considering the triangle bro3. What would you recommend in terms of the speaker choice? Your help with this would be most welcome. Thanks very much everyone.

I'm fairly new to audio and I'm having trouble deciding between these two 5" speakers (Mackie MR524 and Fluance AI40) and I'm wondering if anyone has experience with both and can point me in the right direction. I know the Fluance has the edge when it comes to functionality like bluetooth but I'm wondering if that's matched by a sound edge for the Mackies?

I will mostly be using them for near field, low to medium volumes- but my desk is in the main living area and it would be nice to crank them a bit and hit the entire kitchen/living room with music while I cook/chill with the GF. It's a fairly small one bedroom basement suite and there are no walls separating the kitchen, living room, and my desk. Is a 5" powered setup enough juice for that?

My setup is a glass dinner table being used as a desk, will be feeding and controlling with a Schiit Fulla 3.

 I am purchasing a PS Audio Sprout 100. It's specs say that with 8ohm loudspeakers- it can power 50 watts per channel. And with 4ohm loudspeakers it can channel 100 watts per channel.

I'm also looking at the Klipsch RP-600M bookshelf speakers. It's specs say it can handle 100W (cont) and 400W (peak). I think they are saying each speaker can handle this power.

So my question. If I have two 8ohm speakers- do I go by the 4ohm amp rating or the 8ohm? Am I perfectly matching the 100w per channel at 4ohm to each speaker that can handle 100w continuous?

I'm looking for a super-clean sounding, quality Bluetooth speaker. Budget around $300. So far, I've look at a couple JBLs (Boombox, Xtreme 2). Also checked out Bumpboxx (Ultra, Flare6). All are well within my price range.

So far, I'm sold on the Xtreme 2. It's going to go on sale at Best Buy for $150, which is a solid price range.

Just curious to know what your thoughts are on the speakers I mentioned above, and whether there are others I should consider.

I own a pair of Klipsch R-15PM speakers (connected to a MartinLogan Dynamo 300 sub) that generally sound great as a set of desk speakers. The problem I’m having is that the volume resets when the speakers are turned off (some sort of bullshit EU regulation I think). This is kind of a dealbreaker so I’m looking for a replacement.

Would love some recs in the ~$300-500 price range that are similar to the R-15PMs but don’t the aforementioned Achilles heel.

Main features I’m looking for:

* Aux/optical input so I can use them as computer speakers
* Subwoofer out
* Google Assistant/Alexa functionality could be nice (or Bluetooth if this isn’t available)

I’m also open to getting a separate DAC and speaker set if all of this isn’t feasible. My main concern with that is that I’d want the DAC to have a low profile (not looking to put a full-blown receiver on my desk) and the ability to intelligently switch between inputs. i.e. if they happen to be playing computer audio I should be able to switch inputs via Alexa or something from my bed.

I’ll be doing my own research but thought I’d post just in case someone already knows of something that will do the job.

Tend to listen to electronic/experimental music but I'd like it get the best out of any genre.

Currently I have:
Sony str-dn1080 receiver.
PSB Imagine x2t speakers.
Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable

I’m thinking there’s probably a better amp setup out there for a music focused experience. 

I’d like an integrated amp with a DAC so I can still use toslink for my tv. Bluetooth would be nice too, but not mandatory. 
Phono pre-out would also be nice, but I’ve got a ROLLS vp29 that seems okay. 

Primary audio source will be vinyl.
2nd would be Bluetooth. 

I enjoy a variety of music with a small emphasis toward Electronica like LCD, Hot Chip, DFA, lyric heavy in general. But I’m also really into classic rock, alternative and am poking around in the jazz and blues scenes. 

Budget: $1500 USD or less. MAYBE more for the right component. 
Used is fine, just maybe a bit more of a pain with the need for a DAC and Bluetooth dongle?

I’m new to this community and I wouldn’t consider myself an audiophile but I love music. I am looking for advice on a pair of currently discounted speakers. I am looking at the Klipsch reference series 5.25” 340-watt bookshelf speakers. They are currently 50% off of the $290 price tag for a pair.

I want them exclusively for music listening in my small bedroom. Right now I have a pair of poor quality 5” magnavox speakers paired with a 1990s amplifier. I bought this whole setup for $13 at goodwill. Now I just want to upgrade to a nicer pair. I am looking for good bass and a more of a crisp sound than the cheap speakers I have right now. I don’t want a full home theater system, just a nice sound in my bedroom for music. 

Based off of those specifications would the previously mentioned speaker pair work well for me? What is a good amplifier to pair with those? Is it worth it to add more speakers to my setup? Should I just skip those entirely and go for a different pair?

I am looking at the Klipsch reference series 5.25” 340-watt bookshelf speakers. They are currently 50% off of the $290 price tag for a pair.

I think it sounds decent. It gets loud enough for my living room, it’s clear enough from what I can tell, and the subwoofer is more than adequate. Sometimes dialogue could use a boost depending on the source material. But when I use it for gaming, it’s great. But I would like something a bit nicer for my PC setup. 

I'm a music lover and bass appreciator. I have an aftermarket JBL system in my car, and I enjoy clear, powerful sound. But I am not an audiophile myself. I don't know how to critically listen to audio and so far that has made me fairly easy to please, so please keep that in mind.

I have a small bose speaker and an active subwoofer as my audio setup for my PC.

I split the AUX output from my PC, with one going straight to the speakers and the other goes through an aux -> mono adapter to connect to the subwoofer.

Obviously this is causing the sub to receive high frequency signals so I can’t turn it up particularly loud without it sounding muddy. 

Is there any cheap or easy solution anyone here could recommend? I was thinking of some low pass filter with a mono input and output but I can’t seem to find any products like that. Preferably I’d like to avoid having to buy a proper amplifier as they’re relatively expensive.

I have a pair of PSB Alpha P3 Speakers, originally powered by a Topping PA3 amp.

The original speaker wire (that had banana plugs on both sides) was too short since I mounted my speakers, so today I swapped the wire out for a longer 3m wire. Now I am not hearing sound from both speakers and I don't know whether I've blown either the speaker or amp, if at all

* When removing the original speaker wire I removed the amp side first
* I checked the input source of the amp, it is source 1 and correct
* The PA3 takes a split signal from a D90 DAC, and the other side of the split signal goes to a headphone amp, that is working fine. So the signal chain from PC to DAC, to the speaker amp should be working fine
* I tried testing the former cable that I swapped out, still no sound. So I think it's not the cable. Also not super likely I can break all 4 cables at once

Any ideas guys?

Can anyone suggest what speakers should I consider?! I'm looking at Q Acoustics 3020i or 3030i and Wharfedale diamond 220 or 225. Should I go for the bigger version of both speakers? Does it make sense with this amp? I'm listening to music, with Chromecast, from Spotify in my living room, which is 35sqm. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Shopping for a new receiver...

I currently have a Yamaha RX-V1065 and it is rated at 105 watts rms @ 8ohms. My speakers are klipsch RF-5’s that are 150 watts rms. I’m looking at a denon avr-s750h that is rated 75 watts rms @ 8 ohms. Am I gonna notice a big difference in sound quality with the lower wattage?

My wife has one of these speakers. Her dad likes it, but he has no use for wifi enabled, Bluetooth, wireless, etc. I'm trying to save some cash by not spending $180 for a quality speaker with a bunch of stuff he doesn't care about. 

I figure I can get away with half the price without all the bells and whistles. He's probably just going to permanently wire the speaker to his record player. 

She is rather insistent on Bose. I might be able to swing another top quality brand.

Can someone advise me what would be nice to have for Rear spekers in this system? I was thinking for the Sub to buy a Yamaha ns-sw300 (to complete the whole yamaha series;-)).

Dayton, Ohio here. How hard or easy would it be to do better than a Frenzel SS-4772 Super Stereo Tube Amp with KT-88 and phono pre amp upgrades (new value of ~$1366) for pure analog sound at $550? My phono does already have a preamp, so don't necessarily need one. 

Pushes 30 amps per channel at 4, 8 and 12 ohms, I have Klipsch R-620f 100 watt speakers (8 ohms) in a room with 8 foot ceilings and sit 10-12 feet from speakers. Mainly for playing 70s rock like Floyd, Zep, the Who, etc... AND Bebop Jazz (Davis, Mingus, Monk among our favorites). Super loudness isn't super important to us.

I do like the aesthetics of tubes and sound produced, but if I can do a ton better for this price of less, solid state would be fine. Also getting a bit impatient with current setup, so looking for something I could buy realistically soon rather than; 'If you wait you can usually find...'

The one I'm looking at was purchased in Feb and listed as 'like new'. Willing to travel between Columbus and Cincinnati from Dayton and have no issue with ordering online.

r/audiophile Shopping and Setup Help Desk (2020-11-16)

 I have Polk Monitor 70 speakers and this amp is more than enough for them. I do not need or want a real expensive amp with a bunch of bells and whistles I do not need or use. I am very happy with this purchase.

Worth every penny!

 For the price, I got the features I needed most and it has plenty of functions. The remote works fine to switch between Bluetooth and the optical cable that I attached from the back of the amp to my QLed TCL TV. I’ve read reviews that the phono input is great for vinyl and there is a denon single disc CD player I might add to sample different media. But if you just want to stream music the ease of use the Bluetooth pairs immediately to my iPhone and works well with great sound quality 

 I like having the tone controls and the large volume knob can be controlled by the remote and I never go much past a quarter turn it would be too loud for my condo and my ears . Keep in mind I’m not an audiophile willing to pay $$$ for a higher end amp bc this unit has all the functionality I need. And keep in mind the quality of iTunes new higher resolution sounds quite nice even for my less discerning ears . I like a warm sound but if you turn the volume up on this unit you will get plenty of power
