2) Make sure you tighten to the appropriate length with a set of PLIERS! Just hand tightening allowed the poles to collapse on the slopes. My 9-year old had a nasty fall when her pole suddenly collapsed on an advanced run. They seem to be OK now that I have instrument tightened them.
