Daiwa BG Review | The Perfect Spinning Reel???

I’m relatively new as well, but if you’re looking to downsize to something more balanced, I highly recommend the daiwa bg, but I’d go down to a 2500, and pair it with a medium rod. I use a 10-20lbs braid and a 8-10 lbs fluoro leader. I think it’s the perfect middle rod that’s light enough to throw your lure all day, and strong enough to handle just about anything your frozen bait might hook on to.

So I’m 0/4 for my fishing trips to the pier unless you count squid, pilchards, and pinfish. The accumulation of my knowledge up to this point reasons that my lack of success may be because my main rod and reel are much too heavy for my main target? 

I’ve been considering a Daiwa BG 3000 reel with a Light-Medium rod for more sensitivity but I’m unsure if that’s my problem or not.

One month into fishing and I think I’ve been using the wrong rod and reel.

 Spooled with 30# and 40# braid they are perfect for casting top water lures and pretty good for live bait. When fishing live mackerel I either leave reel in open spool and hold the line waiting for a hit, or close the bail and set near zero drag when leaving rod in a holder. Over the winter they are relatively easy to disassemble and service. I fish from a boat so I don't need the 100% sealed bearings of a VanStaal or Stella

 Partly do to the reel is not sealed but I’m ok with that I don’t plan on going swimming in the ocean with this. Let’s be realistic I would not do that with any reel under $600 sealed or not.  I opened this reel up to see this “digi gear” aka big a$$ gear. Everyone is raving about and yeah it’s ginormous for the size reel

THE REEL TEST

 I would consider Daiwa’s spool and brakes superior, but the overall refinement the Curado offers in that price range is just better in my opinion. Otherwise I’m usually the one to pick Daiwa over anyone else, but at this price point, Shimano is a better choice for bass or redfin perch fishing.

The reason I’m mentioning the MGL (150/151 and 70/71 size) is because they’re fairly light. Tatulas are generally lighter than the Curados, which is a plus, but the Tatulas aren’t lighter than the Curado MGLs. I would consider Daiwa’s spool and brakes superior, but the overall refinement the Curado offers in that price range is just better in my opinion. I think the tatula sv tw has won me over

 Maybe got a few feet farther. Spool: Still unfazed. I'm gonna say, just from my memory, this feels like it can outdo even the mighty 2020 Metanium when it comes to this light lure. And it's probably due in part to the fact that the spool is smaller 32 millimeters remember while the Titanium has a 34 millimeter spool

 Now I've turned two brakes on inside external dial set to about 1.25 and hopefully you guys can see where this casting plug is landing. [Music] but it's going out there probably at least 60 to 65 yards, maybe even more. Once again, I'm kind of bad at estimating these distances, but we'll do one more and then we will try to take the drone up and let you guys estimate for yourselves

 Now that's not a knock on the 150 that just shows us just how awesome the 200k is and why this reel is continually on Tackle Warehouse's best seller list. Now, in my opinion, if we would have went to a heavier topwater, let's say three quarter ounce or one ounce, I think that the 200k would probably eke out longer cast distances, and that's because it does have the bigger spool at 34 millimeters while the Mgl once again has a 32 millimeter spool. Now we'll say this though: the Mgl takes less effort to cast long distances than the 200k and that's due to that lighter Mgl spool. Now, if Shimano would have kept the spool of the 150 at 34 millimeters like the K, but still made it super light, that might have been a whole different story, but you'd be creeping close to 2020 Metanium Mgl specs if you did that

 Of course, this is not the lightest, most responsive rod either. It's uh, the Shimano conversion. Six foot eight, medium heavy, fast. But once again, the weight and I guess the bulky profile or the bulky side plate of the 200k makes me never, ever want to use this reel for walking topwater or suspending jerkbaits

Shimano CURADO MGL 150 casting impressions... Best all around Curado EVER?

I’d recommend the Shimano Curado 70 K MGL. The Curado DC isn’t compact enough and it’s really heavy. I think the CU MGL 70 is a more pleasant reel to fish for a whole day.

 I'm 68 yrs old.  Cons, the picture showed I'd be getting a green reel..It was black w green accents After 3 fishing trips

.light, cast far, drags stays put, easy to adjust drag, doesn't hold too much line. I've caught some big bass on them and the drag works great. They are very light so casing all day is easy
