Daiwa BG Review | The Perfect Spinning Reel???

I’m relatively new as well, but if you’re looking to downsize to something more balanced, I highly recommend the daiwa bg, but I’d go down to a 2500, and pair it with a medium rod. I use a 10-20lbs braid and a 8-10 lbs fluoro leader. I think it’s the perfect middle rod that’s light enough to throw your lure all day, and strong enough to handle just about anything your frozen bait might hook on to.

So I’m 0/4 for my fishing trips to the pier unless you count squid, pilchards, and pinfish. The accumulation of my knowledge up to this point reasons that my lack of success may be because my main rod and reel are much too heavy for my main target? 

I’ve been considering a Daiwa BG 3000 reel with a Light-Medium rod for more sensitivity but I’m unsure if that’s my problem or not.

One month into fishing and I think I’ve been using the wrong rod and reel.

 Spooled with 30# and 40# braid they are perfect for casting top water lures and pretty good for live bait. When fishing live mackerel I either leave reel in open spool and hold the line waiting for a hit, or close the bail and set near zero drag when leaving rod in a holder. Over the winter they are relatively easy to disassemble and service. I fish from a boat so I don't need the 100% sealed bearings of a VanStaal or Stella

 Partly do to the reel is not sealed but I’m ok with that I don’t plan on going swimming in the ocean with this. Let’s be realistic I would not do that with any reel under $600 sealed or not.  I opened this reel up to see this “digi gear” aka big a$$ gear. Everyone is raving about and yeah it’s ginormous for the size reel

Will probably run you about $120 if you don’t hunt for the deals. Hunt around online for the reel. Hunt around at brick and mortar for the rod (I don’t trust shipping rods personally); Walmart is gonna be your best bet imo.

For a reel, I’m gonna shill for Abu Garcia. I have their Silvermaxx baitcaster and their silvermaxx spinner and both are worth the money. Silky smooth and durable for a good setup, that’s not too hard on the budget (in the grand scheme of angling gear). If you put in the necessary work to bust one of those reels, I’d say you’d have gotten your money’s worth

I now want to get my first proper rod/reel, and relegate the telescopic one to my wife which seems to have also gotten hoked on. I am mostly going to be fishing fresh water for bass, trout, etc. I was planning on getting an Ugly Stik GX2 and was wondering if I should go for the rod/reel combo, or get the Ugly Stik and another decent budget reel, and if so are there any recommendations on a good budget reel?

As for the rod itself I was looking at Medium Power and Medium Action. Do you guys think that's a decent type of rod for a beginner who is mostly going to be fishing lakes and ponds for bass, trout, and the like, or would Fast Action be better? 

Finally, are there any disadvantages in getting a 2 piece rod as opposed to a 1 piece? I imagine the advantage is that the 2 piece is more compact, but are they easier to break, for example?

Help choosing rod and reel.

For hooks I have absolutely no idea about sizes or what other considerations I need to think about.  I think the hooks for a carolina rig would be different than the ones for a grub or worm but not sure on size at all.  Seems like there are weedless hooks for when I am in an area fishing in weeds. I think that generally the kits you might get on amazon would give me a lot of things I don't need though might be a good situation here even though I really have no clue what size to use

I've read the guides but they are very helpful but (rightfully) very flexible to area so I thought that maybe a specific example could be good.  Just need some basic options to show up and have some fun on a nice day.  I have some flexibility on budget, the goal here is to eventually be able to go camping and bring some gear and try to catch some dinner when we are on water.  So if spending a little more to get something a little more durable then that is OK

 My old one went to my daughter & every other option was either one piece or action too light. This pole will see many miles, streams & reservoirs on the Wyoming mountain roads. Really love the new hook tender eyelet by the handle. Good to know the product development team is thinking
