Daiwa BG Review | The Perfect Spinning Reel???

I’m relatively new as well, but if you’re looking to downsize to something more balanced, I highly recommend the daiwa bg, but I’d go down to a 2500, and pair it with a medium rod. I use a 10-20lbs braid and a 8-10 lbs fluoro leader. I think it’s the perfect middle rod that’s light enough to throw your lure all day, and strong enough to handle just about anything your frozen bait might hook on to.

So I’m 0/4 for my fishing trips to the pier unless you count squid, pilchards, and pinfish. The accumulation of my knowledge up to this point reasons that my lack of success may be because my main rod and reel are much too heavy for my main target? 

I’ve been considering a Daiwa BG 3000 reel with a Light-Medium rod for more sensitivity but I’m unsure if that’s my problem or not.

One month into fishing and I think I’ve been using the wrong rod and reel.

 Spooled with 30# and 40# braid they are perfect for casting top water lures and pretty good for live bait. When fishing live mackerel I either leave reel in open spool and hold the line waiting for a hit, or close the bail and set near zero drag when leaving rod in a holder. Over the winter they are relatively easy to disassemble and service. I fish from a boat so I don't need the 100% sealed bearings of a VanStaal or Stella

 Partly do to the reel is not sealed but I’m ok with that I don’t plan on going swimming in the ocean with this. Let’s be realistic I would not do that with any reel under $600 sealed or not.  I opened this reel up to see this “digi gear” aka big a$$ gear. Everyone is raving about and yeah it’s ginormous for the size reel

 They have tension adjustments on the spool. They have brakes, even the line that you use on the bait caster, whether it's braided line or it's fluorocarbon. The weight of the braid can affect the tension on the spool when it's spinning. so I think inherently that's why a lot of guys have been apprehensive to consider baitcasters, especially the guys fishing inshore

 As we take off the side plate, take a closer look at the Magforce braking system, the magnetic braking system on this reel, and how it works in conjunction with this Sv spool design. So let's dive right in and take a closer look at how Dioa's Sv spool inside works in conjunction with their Magforce Magnetic braking system. So this dial here on the side has settings from 0 all the way to 20 and that's going to determine how much magnetic force is being applied to the spool. This little screw here on the outside

 You see, this opening here is much bigger than what is on a traditional level wine on a bait caster And the idea is that by having a bigger opening when you go to cast and line is peeling off the spool, this bigger opening is going to allow for line to travel left and right off the spool without as much friction and resistance. And that's going to equate to further casting distance because the line is not fighting itself to get out of a smaller opening on say, a traditional baitcaster. Daiwa Tatula. Under 200, casts great, solid drag. Hard to find a better real at the price point in my opinion.

So I have a couple spinning real setups, but have started to realize a baitcaster setup with a little higher gear ratio could really help get the most out of some of the lures and tackle I want to use this spring and summer.

Any recommendations on rod/reels or combos? I don’t mind spending a little money for good quality but don’t want to break the bank.

Baitcaster Recommendations?

Honestly Lew's aren't bad but I'd go with a daiwa tatula for around that price. Trust me when I say you'll thank me later.

The Daiwa is the easiest to use. The brakes do the work for spool control along with the thumb. You do not need to adjust the tension knob.

Reel

The Elite is lighter, casts just as well as the DC, and feels so solid. For casting distance the Elite, for close combat fishing lighter jigs the Tatula SV TW103, for close combat fishing in the jungle weedbeds the SV TWS.

I've recently been reading and watching many reviews on reels like the curado DC, tatula elite, curado mgl, SLX DC, 13 concept z, and a few others. Leaning towards the DC but don't want to regret it down the road if there are better options out there. Any advise helps!

 Guys, sometimes with these reels they will come a little bit on the dry side. Doesn't affect performance, doesn't affect longevity of that reel, but when you start to reel when you get out of that box, if you can hear the gears or anything like that while you're reeling that handle, I would recommend adding some oil to that reel. I don't have a big issue with that, but it is something that you might want to take notice of. I know it might bother some people, which is why I want to let you know about it
