After not having been able to get Surfshark VPN working with Netflix for months I think I finally found the reason and solution. 

The problem was that Netflix "somehow" found out that a VPN is being used and is asking the user to connect directly, without VPN.

There are several discussions about it here and elsewhere, and I've also asked Surfshark support, who were unable to help.

While sorting out another Surfshark VPN problem I realized that if you just pick a location, it will connect with a range of different IP addresses to the same target. All in the same country, but still different IP addresses. This is probably one reason why Netflix notice something is going on.  The way to fix this is, go to the Surfshark VPN client, and tick the "static IP" tab, pick one of the VPN servers there. This will cause Surfshark to always use the say IP to connect.  After this I no longer have any problem using Surfshark VPN with Netflix - at least on my Android TV boxes.

Next, I tried applying this on my tablet, but strangely enough here this fix didn't work, I still got the "you're using a VPN" error. I wondered how this could be, and realized that the Netflix client will, when available, use GPS location to verify your location. Android TV boxes usually don't have a GPS receiver so won't give this information, but tables and mobiles normally will. Luckily Surfshark also have a solution for this. Under Settings &gt; Advanced there is an option to override GPS location. Changing this is a little more complicated, you need to enable "developer mode" on the tablet or mobile, but it

How to get Surfshark VPN to work with Netflix (Solution)

It hasn't always been like this, when I first paid for the VPN subscription, around April 2020, it was fast and I rarely ever experienced any issues, to the point where I just allowed CyberGhost to start a VPN when I booted up windows as it felt (more or less) like I was on my regular WiFi.

Am I good using Cyberghost for torrenting for the time being?

4. To see if I could improve on the torrneting speeds without paying ExpressVPN prices, I tried CyberGhost, which is erroneously dubbed the torrenting VPN. They are the worst of the four, IMO. More expensive than Surfshark with Surfshark's slow speeds, and very slow server switching for some reason

 This is the one area where Express was vastly better than Nord, and I'm still toying with the idea of going back to Express as I'm still within my trial period with Nord. As far as security goes, they all claim to keep no logs, and are based in areas where they supposedly are not subject to the scrutiny of the fascist powers (Nord in Panama), but who knows if this will really be the case if they are pressed. I don't know how important this will be for the average user who is primarily concerned about hackers, copyright infringement vulnerability, and foreign media access. Nord is supposedly among the best where security is concerned, with options for double VPN encryption and some other bells and whistles, and since torrenting is not something you do it's probably a no-brainer for you to go with Nord, as I don't think they are weak in any other area, presuming there isn't a repeat of the hacking disaster that happened in 2019

 I was pleasently surprised by the speeds. My direct to ISP specs are 8 ms latency, 330 Mbps down, 17 Mbps up. With Express if I picked the geographically closest server I could get the latency down to about 25 ms, about 270 Mbps down, and 14 Mbps up. I'm totally good with that

 Out of the box I was getting 311 Mbps down, 16 Mbps up, the first latency was about 30-32 ms, which Nord thought was the fastest, probably because it is in Canada, but then when I tried the Chicago server which is closer to where I am, I got the same download upload speeds and about a 24 ms latency! Also the interface is way better than either of Surfshark or Express. More configurability and graphical map is nice to have, same that Proton offers. The mobile apps (android, ios) are ok, about the same as Express. I didn't even get to the point of trying out the mobile aps with Surfshark because the speeds were so awful

I would suggest a solid client like TorGuard but of course you need to establish what’s leaking and why.

Internet provider coming after me for piracy… I always have my VPN on. Not sure how or why they are seeing any activity (I also rarely download anything or host anything)

Been using TorGuard for a couple of years and they have been rock solid.  They have a custom config generator for OpenVPN & Wireguard connections that you can plug directly into QbittorrentVPN or DelugeVPN.

I am looking to switch my VPNs. I was using Ivacy but lately it has been acting up not to mention I have been having issues with it randomly dropping connection but not properly running the killswitch. I read that TorGuard is good but I am not sure what options to get on it. To be honest not sure if it is even the best one to get. I use Qbittorrent for my torrent software.  Any advice for someone who is lost?

Monthly VPN recommendations megathread: the only place for mentioning specific providers

Torguard has been the fastest VPN I've used. PIA, CactusVPN, and PrivateVPN have been ~ 20mb/s slower which is not bad at all but using a 50% off code on Torguard gives you the cheapest price out of them all making it 100% worth it.

<p>Torguard is based in the USA, so first and foremost, if you&#39;re looking for something that is not part of any of the eyes cooperation, just look at another provider. They also haven&#39;t done any auditing as some of the other vpns so that could be concerning to some people. In my case I didn&#39;t really care about it. <p>I used it mainly for torrenting because torguard has port forwarding and they worked pretty well for it. Downloads were going pretty steadily. The few times I tried it on Netflix it was a hit or miss, but I haven&#39;t researched that part that much, so I can&#39;t say that I do not recommend it for streaming. </p>

<p>Price-wise they&#39;re not free and they&#39;re not super cheap, but their monthly price is somewhat decent comparing to some of the other providers I&#39;ve checked. It gets significantly more expensive if you want to stream movies and so on, though, so keep that in mind when buying the cheapest option that they have.</p>

My torguard review

This is a better deal for them than for you, and consequently we get people here every week regretting they were locked in a multi-year subscription. Torguard is popular among YouTubers and some websites because they have a generous affiliate program, so they cash in everytime someone signs-up with their code. Conversely, Mullvad lacks affiliates so every recommendation is from a happy user.

Is tomspark to be trusted? Im think of buying torguard with three year deal so i can get it for 90$. I know it is based in the US, but it doesnt really matter, does it? The vpn i have seen a lot good talk about is Mullvad, but that is based in the 14 eyes too, and imo they would 100% start logging user if goverment were to ask.
