CRKT Minimalist cleaver vs Schrade Extreme Survival Large Fixed Blade Knife

Through many others, I finally have been using the CRKT minimalist and actually just ordered a SpyderCo LadyBug (supposed to be about 15 g). I don’t think I’ll ever be someone who ditches a knife completely or goes the razor blade route, but I’ve definitely shaved a lot of weight over the years. Small steps down definitely helped, as I don’t think I would’ve even considered such a tiny knife even 3 years ago. Especially for smaller items, I think it helps to gradually cut down instead of just going cold turkey

Out of the box, the sheer bulk of the knife was the first thing I noticed - as many others have said, this thing is a beast, weighing in at close to a full pound. The grips are nicer than expected, rubber-like and with a slight give that gives a comfortable feel. I wish they fit better, as the tang slightly protrudes all around the handle. It's not uncomfortable, but I do wonder if that would be true once the knife was used for any extended period

Opinel, Mora, CRKT minimalist, traditional folders like Case or GEC, Spyderco Salt, hawkbill knife (MKM makes a pretty neat one).

1095 steel, for the price this is a plus since this steel is pretty good for outdoors/survival tasks, will need to be taken care of to avoid rust though. Looks and feels tough, very thick spine, don't think it will suffer any damage when chopping or battoning. Price!, for the size and steel material this is a great price point. Ok now for the CONS: The balance feels a little off, I can't quite describe it but it just something you have to feel for yourself

My priorities are towards concealeable fixed blades. I highly prefer belt carry knifes as while i exchange pants and thus pocket sizes and arrangements regulary (office jeans at work, cargos in my free time, bike pants on the bike), my belt always gonna be my belt and on every pant, be it summer, winter, walking or riding my motorbike.

I had a small Schrade folder from when I was a kid, but I haven't seen any since, so I thought I would test it out and if I hated it I could just exchange it towards one of the Beckers. The knife arrived beautifully, protected well in it's box, even though some textbooks in my order crushed it. The blade steel was clean and spotless, almost a bead blasted- gunmetal gray tone. Heavy, as expected, with a beautiful curve to the blade that resembles the kopis style on my CS Spartan

The outer layer of the handle is so thin that it is worn through in multiple spots straight from the seller. It gives the handle of the knife a very shop-worn appearance right out of the box. It makes it look like someone has used the handle portion of the knife for a long time.

The edges of the handle do not come flush with the tang of the knife and when you look closely along the top of the sides of the handles you can see small dimples from the molding process. If you use gloves, which I do, the handle defects will not be a problem. However, it would be nice if the handles were defect-free. Another defect is found in the blade itself

Great knife, except it just falls out of it sheath. And after weeks of this happening it finally fell out and i didnt feel it. So now its gone. Was a good fit and sharp durable, just sheath was no good and now a waste of money because now its gone!

Let's be clear here... This knife is definitely one of the best bargains going! I don't think you can get a more heavy duty knife for this price guys

The sheath adds so much value to the product and I am already looking for my next variant to get. I would recommend this to anyone that in the market currently.

Now although the knife itself is absolutely fantastic, the sheath leaves a bit to be desired. First off its just nylon with a plastic insert for the blade. Not a high quality nylon, but in all fairness

Here lately, I’ve been sitting on the porch in the evenin working on making little feather sticks with it for lighting fire with. I have to say it does indeed work pretty well for that. Maybe I’ll take this little cleaver with me the next time I go deer hunting out in West Texas and see how she holds up in a camping sort of situation. I have to be completely honest here though

rubber handle is not flushed with the tang, you can feel the metal edges when holding. heavy, solid and sturdy. surely will last
