This thread is meant to conglomerate purchase advice for both newcomers and people looking for additional machines. Keeping this discussion to one thread means less searching should anyone have questions that may already have been answered here, as well as more visibility to inquiries in general, as comments made here will be visible for the entire month stuck to the top of the sub, and then linked to in the next month's thread.

If you are new to 3D printing, and are unsure of what to ask, try to include the following in your posts as a minimum:

* Your budget, set at a numeric amount. Saying "cheap," or "money is not a problem" is not an answer people can do much with. 3D printers can cost $100, they can cost $10,000,000, and anywhere in between. A rough idea of what you're looking for is essential to figuring out anything else.
* Your country of residence.
* If you are willing to build the printer from a kit, and what your level of experience is with electronic maintenance and construction if so.
* What you wish to do with the printer.
* Any extenuating circumstances that would restrict you from using machines that would otherwise fit your needs (limited space for the printer, enclosure requirement, must be purchased through educational intermediary, etc).

While this is by no means an exhaustive list of what can be included in your posts, these questions should help paint enough of a picture to get started. Don't be afraid to ask more questions, and never worry about asking too many. The people posting in this thread are here because they want to give advice, and any questions you have answered may be useful to others later on, when they read through this thread looking for answers of their own. Everyone here was new once, so chances are whoever is replying to you has a good idea of how you feel currently.

Additionally, a quick word on print quality: Most FDM/FFF (that is, filament based) printers are capable of approximately the same tolerances and print appearance, as the biggest limiting factor is in the nature of extruded plastic. **Asking if a machine has "good prints," or saying "I don't expect the best quality for $xxx" isn't actually relevant for the most part** with regards to these machines. Should you need additional detail and higher tolerances, you may want to explore SLA, DLP, and other photoresin options, as those *do* offer an increase in overall quality. If you are interested in resin machines, make sure you are aware of [how to use them safely](https://www.reddit.com/r/3DPrinting/wiki/resinprinting#wiki_safety). For these safety reasons we don't usually recommend a resin printer as someone's first printer.

 As I said, no SD card but that's not actually a problem because you simply go onto the app store, download the Creality Cloud app and sign up there and you can actually connect it to the printer and just send slices up to the cloud and just go onto the app and press print from there. So you don't actually have to mess around with plugging in USB sticks and SD cards and so on and transferring files and then unplug it, take it to the printer, plug it in, you don't have to bother with any of that. You can actually slice files on the computer and send them up to the cloud and they will then appear in the app and you just press print from there. Very predictable, I'm sorry this was the first thing I printed but yeah it's what everybody does isn't it? The benchy sort of test print, give it a good test and yeah that's working away there very well

Now the bed is already levelled, so there's no bed levelling required at this stage, it's done at the factory. Creality Sermoon V1 Pro unboxing this new 3D printer!

 Hello there, welcome back to Simon Shedd, it's time for another look at a 3D printer.

 I was kindly sent this printer by Creality to take a look at.

 It's the Sermoon V1 Pro and it's a FDM printer, something I know nothing about because I've

 So this is going to be a really good test of beginner set it up and use it because all

 my experience so far has been with resin printing whereas this is an FDM printer.

 So they sent it over and said take a look, so be rude not to.

 And what we've got is this, the Sermoon V1 Pro.

 I didn't realise until I saw the box that Create Reality is where Creality comes from,

 But let's not mess about, let's get the box open straight away and first things first,

 So we've got a pack of instructions, sort of quick start guide and they send some filament,

 some PLA, obviously a plug, and a toolkit and spare parts, so we've got a spare nozzle

 in there and some tools for future use and the ever handy snippers there, very useful

 for cutting off supports and snipping the filament.

 And you'll notice that we don't have an SD card.

 We do have links to an app, so that's interesting.

 More on that later, but we'll get it out of the bag and you'll notice straight away that

 So most importantly, let's see what Fern the dog thinks.

 And as part of the unpackaging, we have to enjoy peeling off the films, very satisfying.

 So yeah, as I say, there's no building to do, just remove this bit of packaging here

 and there's a few cable ties to snip, be very careful because those are next to some belts.

 So yeah, carefully snip those, remove the bits of packaging and that's kind of it, switch

 So you snip the filament, the end of the filament at an angle.

 I did wonder what this was for, but yeah, it's to hang your reel on for the filament,

 All very simple really, so it goes down that tube and then you have to go into the menu

 and tap on feed and once you've fed it in as it's shown, you just press okay and wait

 for it to come through the nozzle, it starts heating up the nozzle.
