Catan vs Great Western Trail

I actually thought it was boring at first as I didn't have a clear grasp of the mechanics yet. After re-reading the rules and playing games a couple more times I slowly came to realize this game is deep in strategy, and even if you're dealt the same set of cards you can approach the game from different angles.

The tiles and dice placement rules were more interesting. My husband said it's not one of his favorites as it is a little too mathy for him. I like the evolving puzzle of generating resources by managing your dice.

Get the extension if you want five or six players. The game involves the strategic gathering of resources and trading with opponents. Instead of traveling across a board to reach the end or a certain destination, Settlers of Catan involves building roads and settlements which eventually lead you to victory.

You can pull off into these substations drop off a disc here into these places and then put one of your workers that you've collected from here now. Y...

If you like strategy games, you will like this. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is there are often times where it is not going well for at least one person in the game and this can be VERY frustrating. If your family is overly competitive, you may want to consider a different game.

**Faiyum:** Was very interested in this, but also trepidatious because we bounced hard off of Power Grid, the only other FF game we've played. However, after a few plays I'm pretty hooked. Having 60 odd unique action cards you can buy allows such a variety of strategies to pop up, and just the way the marketplace works mean you likely won't even see the same actions and strategies from one game to the next.

Good, but half of the pieces had some black stuff on them that wouldn't come off. We didn't know what it was and even cleaned them in a bleach solution. Still stained. But other than that everything was perfect!

**Great Western Trail**. I know this sub loves that game, but my first and only play of it was poorly taught, and the game just felt like it took way too long for what was really just a particularly slow deck builder about cows. I was rarin' to go on that one, but holy crap did that sour it for me.

We're not exactly dummies in my house but we couldn't figure out after two nights the rules of the game. My brother and his wife enjoy the game so much that we gave it a try. It's in the garage to go off with the next load to Goodwill. Hopefully to a family smarter than us will get it

Inis because of the game board, those oddly shaped tiles. And the winning conditions (meet this requirement, plus have a certain token). Also the flipping of the token at the start of every round that determines if you play clockwise or counter.

I love it! It looks true to the natural theme of Catan and doesn't go too far out. Quality looks fantastic as well!

I am reluctantly having to get rid of my copy of Fort, and I’m looking for a replacement. My wife and I love deck builders, highly thematic games, and very high production quality. Unfortunately Fort missed the mark for my wife theme-wise.
