Canon EOS Rebel SL3 vs Fujifilm X-T30

For the type of video you're doing, I prefer the Canon. The autofocus is smoother and you can scrub footage to review it, which is really important. The Sony has weird old VCR-style controls to review footage and it means sometimes I don't catch problems I need to know about soon enough to refilm.

The autofocus system is essentially the same as the X-T3—the X-T30 actually offers some enhancements, which are coming to the X-T3 via a firmware update. In practice, it performs quite well. It locks focus quickly, supports eye and face detection for human subjects, and can track moving targets with ease.

Love the fact that I can use legacy Canon lenses or the newest, as my budget allows. I got the 18-55 STM kit lens and it is a fine starter lens, especially for video (wide angle since the camera crops, especially with 4K video), it's silent, fast and relatively accurate. I also got a "nifty fifty" prime Canon 50mm lens that is Super for portraits and just to walk around with taking photos. I also got a Canon EF-S 55-250mm STM lens for excellent shots of RC planes in the air far away

I bought the 23mm 1:1.4R and 35mm 1:1.4R lenses, and both have fairly loud autofocus mechanisms. Even when you use these lenses with manual focus, you're actually not controlling the assembly directly, it still uses the motors to focus

As always, JPEGs from the X-T30 look downright terrific. All of Fujifilm’s signature film simulations are included, and it’s a lot of fun testing them and seeing what works best for a given shooting scenario, whether you’re looking for more vivid colors, moody black and white shots, or something with softer tones. The company recently launched a redesigned mobile app for iOS (it’ll come to Android this summer), but I’ll just say that there’s still room for improvement in terms of speed and eliminating unnecessary steps. The Wi-Fi connection between phone and camera is stable, and sending photos over to your phone for a quick Instagram post is a great option to have

I mostly got it for landscape and city/street photography, but also have hopes of doing astrophotography eventually with some 3rd party prime lenses (Fuji's primes are a bit out of my budget currently). Besides the lower price, I also selected it over it's big brother, the X-T3, because of its more compact size and lighter weight. But besides those things and a few minor feature limits, it is essentially the same camera for a few hundred $ less. I will update soon with more thoughts and some photos
