Canon EOS Rebel SL3 vs Canon Powershot G9X

Love the fact that I can use legacy Canon lenses or the newest, as my budget allows. I got the 18-55 STM kit lens and it is a fine starter lens, especially for video (wide angle since the camera crops, especially with 4K video), it's silent, fast and relatively accurate. I also got a "nifty fifty" prime Canon 50mm lens that is Super for portraits and just to walk around with taking photos. I also got a Canon EF-S 55-250mm STM lens for excellent shots of RC planes in the air far away

It does overexpose a bit in bright conditions but it's not egregious and I find dialing in -1/2 EV will usually correct things - but this is a pretty typical issue with most enthusiast compacts. The lens is slower than its more expensive line mates but generally offers about the same level of optical quality (sharp in the center at all focal lengths but soft corners at telephoto), overall it's a pretty decent lens. Video also looks pretty good, sharp with great color. Autofocus performance is satisfactory, not great

Zooming to the 50mm position reduces the maximum aperture by two stops to f/4. Noise in high ISO and optics minutely inferior in G9X (the differences were negligible to me). Auto-focus speed remarkably better in RX 100. I still discarded RX 100 because - It is 50 grams heavier. 50 grams doesn't sound much, but on a 200 gram camera, that takes right off the additional bulky feeling when you put the camera in pocket
