Canon EOS Rebel T8i vs Nikon D3400

6x crop sensor plus a 2x crop for 4k video. I recorded to a Ninja V (mainly to be able to break the 30 minute mark). Footage looks good for the price on an entry level camera. Not a huge dynamic range, but it looks good, especially after being able to dial things in with the tools on the Ninja V

I currently have a Nikon d3400 which has served me well but definitely needs an upgrade in the video category since my iPhone is legitimately shooting better video haha. I work for a crafts business so I need a camera that is able to do high detail close ups with good colors and do videos of both products and of people doing stuff around the store.

Always fuzzy. This is my issue, not the camera's I’m sure. Or so I thought but upon reading many Canon lens reviews I find a common thread among some is the auto focus either doesn’t work or stops working. The camera body is surprisingly light although for my smaller women’s hands I find it a little awkward, especially the shutter button

You could really even look at a t7, same camera really, big drawback is no flip screen but it’s less than half the price, otherwise just get the t8i or sl3 you will be able to take fantastic photos with any of them, modern camera sensors are so good and that is a decent kit lens, you can add an ef-s 55-250 is stm lens as well if you want a nice telephoto zoom to complete the kit. You will be more than happy with the quality of images you can produce, the only limitation will really be your technique,.

The flip screen is definitely a bigggg plus! Also it comes with a lot of easy setting for beginners. I don’t use them often but they do come in handy here and there. I prefer shooting in RAW and in Manual. But even if you are still learning the auto settings are pretty dope! I also love how I can’t transfer photos without removing my SD card! The only reason why this didn’t get 5 stars is because it came with the wrong battery charger! I received a LC-E12 charger instead of an LC-E17

That lens has vibration reduction, has a larger max aperture (faster lens), better image quality, and it's an FX lens so if you upgrade to an FX camera at any point you'll be set with it (note the 18-55mm will only work on FX cameras in crop mode, which only uses the center of the image sensor). I got my 70-300mm VR off of ebay for $225 used, it's in stellar condition, and I can get tack sharp shots with it at 300mm with 1/70th of a second shutter speed.

Partner it with a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM for portrait work and you're on to a winner.

I researched for months on great entry level camera and I am a Canon person. This meets everything I need. Camera is perfect if you want it to do camera and video. I did not need big 4k video so this one worked great

Budget is about $800, could go up a bit for a better option. Happy to consider cheaper options too. My kid is going to college in fall to study photo/video and communications. The college says any entry level DSLR or mirrorless is fine and lists as examples Canon T6i or Nikon D3400 w kit lens

The editing software from Canon is also great. The first pic is with a 24mm prime lens and the second and third pic is a 50mm prime. All were edited in Canon's Digital Photo Professional 4. The fourth is the 18-55 lens that comes with the camera and not edited (It's the first day I went out to use the camera)

(At least I was able to swap out my Nikon AF-P Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5 - 5.6G DX VR for the 16-80mm lens. Such a major improvement!)

I was happy with the first few test shots but then I took it on the trip I bought it for and the battery just ran out almost immediately. I thought it was nothing at first and charged it again but it keeps happening. I hate returning things but this is a big problem.

Also, the battery life on this camera is just unreal. I've had it for several months, and have taken roughly 2000 photos at various times and locations, and I finally, just now, need to charge the battery for the first time. If you are used to having to charge your phone every night, it's a really nice change of pace to only have to charge your camera once in a blue moon. I am an amateur, but I can happily say that I am blown away with the quality of photos this camera can take at this price point
