Canon EOS Rebel SL3 vs Canon EOS R5

For the type of video you're doing, I prefer the Canon. The autofocus is smoother and you can scrub footage to review it, which is really important. The Sony has weird old VCR-style controls to review footage and it means sometimes I don't catch problems I need to know about soon enough to refilm.

I have used many different cameras over my career from different brands and I always come back to Canon. I had the 5D mk IV before this one, and thought that I didn't need to upgrade because it's such a fantastic camera, and yet, the R5 blows it out of the water. The eye detection autofocus is so good, that I don't even have to look at my camera, because I know it will nail the shot almost every time. Love the fact that I can use legacy Canon lenses or the newest, as my budget allows. I got the 18-55 STM kit lens and it is a fine starter lens, especially for video (wide angle since the camera crops, especially with 4K video), it's silent, fast and relatively accurate. I would suggest going for the EOS R5, but make sure to get the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens along with it. This will provide a good focal range with constant maximum aperture, image stabilization, and excellent image quality. I suspect that you should be able to get the camera and body for less than the body-only price of the 1DX Mk.

The camera and especially the lenses are much, much heavier than my old SX70 and it can be a little unweildy, but it has given me the extra resolution and detail that I sorely needed.
