I wouldn't trust the lock to hold under great strain, but this knife isn't for those kinds of jobs. Great knife; a pocket-sized (and weighted) 110

 1) small in size as mentioned above ( but still large enough for reasonable use) 2) light weight 3) very slim profile 4) not "tactical" looking 5) US made This turns out to be harder than one might imagine. Knives tend to be too large, or too military looking for polite use, or most dreadfully made "offshore". Enter the "55". I have long been a fan of buck knives and have a deep respect for the fact that they manage to produce a high quality product in the US while keeping their prices very reasonable

 The good news is that the knife arrived and fits my parameters perfectly; it is small, light, handsome with brass bolsters and polished rose wood scales, but alas the blade was completely dull. I am not a stickler for the sharpness of a knife when it arrives, as I have high standards for sharpness and also understand that you need to be willing to work with a blade over its life. However the 55 that I receive appeared unfinished, the blade seems to have received the the first shaping grind, but none of the subsequent polishing or sharpening grinds, I had to work for 20 minutes on a grinding stone to get the primary bevel in place and another 10 minutes of work before it would cut paper. Once that happened the knife was perfect, I was just a bit surprised and disappointed that this one snuck out the door of the buck factory essentially as an unfinished item

 Like it's big brother, the 55 is superb workmanship, and incredibly sharp. It's very lightweight, but also striking in simplicity and beauty. I find myself not wanting to have this in my pocket everyday, but on occasion, so as not to age it too quickly, but then again, at only around $30, it's easily replaced. I can't say this any more positively than this: If you need a single blade, locking pocket knife, sharp enough to skin deer or whatever, buy this knife! You will love it!

I like the knife, however fit and finish on the scales could be better. The blade arrived with a burr, almost seems like they didn't finish sharpening it.

 It was very easy to carry and didn’t feel like a stick (size) or brick (weight) in the pocket. It was relatively slim and the FRN handles allowed for excellent purchase in multiple grips. Fit and finish was excellent as well.

I don’t have any blades over 3.5” and I feel it’s about time to add one to the collection. What would you all recommend? General requirements for me are:

-Deep carry clip
-Sub $150
-please god anything but a tanto
-no serrations

The rest I’ll leave open ended - Really just trying to see what others are carrying in this size range and what works for them. Anybody EDC blades around 3.75”-4”? Curious how cumbersome it can be. Thanks folks!

Indra so same materials vg-10 and black FRN, with skeletonized inset, stainless steel liners and back lock, you can see e1 cliff blade is just a little shorter overall, and you can also see here. You got a fully functional index finger choil on the police 4, as opposed to the enduro, which does not have that feature. Blade thickness and handle thickness are going to be very similar

 We'Ll take a quick look with the native chief as well. Another fairly large knife from Spyderco functional finger choil on this one, and you can see again just a little shorter than that police four blade stock thickness is going to be similar on these. To handle thickness is a little thinner on the police, four, which is pretty typical for the FRN models. Functional grip area is going to be similar on these two as well close these up and take a look at the footprint

 Ground vg10, with a satin finish handles, are black bi-directional textured FRN, with a mid back lock and for position. What this knife lacks in frills, it delivers with solid, reliable performance. The blade style is somewhere between a sheepsfoot and a wharncliffe, providing great cutting performance. The slight downcurve at the tip gives an adequate piercing ability while still allowing the blade tip of the knife to be used without risking poking underlying surfaces. For a first responder cutting away loose clothing to triage an injury, this definitely has advantages

Big, capable tool at a good price

 It locks up solidly, and the skelotonized steel liners add a lot of strength and not much weight. It's far from fixed blade strength, but feels like a precise, high quality EDC tool. It will certainly be my preferred choice for as long as I can foresee. The grip is good, ergonomics are fair (would be comfier is the handle were ticker, but I'm happy to accept that compromise because I can hardly tell I have a mini pocket sword on me), and the Japanese steel and craftsmanship is excellent

 It came sharp but the first thing I did was polish the grind marks out of the bevels and get it razor sharp. Time will tell how it deals with corrosion, but for now it is a total winner and good value at $90.

Long, precise, solid, beautiful, utilitarian

 But my only gripe was that it was very heavy and for that reason very uncomfortable in the pocket almost to the point of distraction. But with this FRN handle PROBLEM SOLVED. Fantastic if you prefer a large EDC 4"+. Razor sharp out of the box ergonomic perfection
