I wouldn't trust the lock to hold under great strain, but this knife isn't for those kinds of jobs. Great knife; a pocket-sized (and weighted) 110

 1) small in size as mentioned above ( but still large enough for reasonable use) 2) light weight 3) very slim profile 4) not "tactical" looking 5) US made This turns out to be harder than one might imagine. Knives tend to be too large, or too military looking for polite use, or most dreadfully made "offshore". Enter the "55". I have long been a fan of buck knives and have a deep respect for the fact that they manage to produce a high quality product in the US while keeping their prices very reasonable

 The good news is that the knife arrived and fits my parameters perfectly; it is small, light, handsome with brass bolsters and polished rose wood scales, but alas the blade was completely dull. I am not a stickler for the sharpness of a knife when it arrives, as I have high standards for sharpness and also understand that you need to be willing to work with a blade over its life. However the 55 that I receive appeared unfinished, the blade seems to have received the the first shaping grind, but none of the subsequent polishing or sharpening grinds, I had to work for 20 minutes on a grinding stone to get the primary bevel in place and another 10 minutes of work before it would cut paper. Once that happened the knife was perfect, I was just a bit surprised and disappointed that this one snuck out the door of the buck factory essentially as an unfinished item

 Like it's big brother, the 55 is superb workmanship, and incredibly sharp. It's very lightweight, but also striking in simplicity and beauty. I find myself not wanting to have this in my pocket everyday, but on occasion, so as not to age it too quickly, but then again, at only around $30, it's easily replaced. I can't say this any more positively than this: If you need a single blade, locking pocket knife, sharp enough to skin deer or whatever, buy this knife! You will love it!

I like the knife, however fit and finish on the scales could be better. The blade arrived with a burr, almost seems like they didn't finish sharpening it.

 It's pretty much the same material used in the frame of my Glock and I've had no problems. Think many other Glock owners criticize the material? If I could change a few things about this latest Flash version, it would be to offer it in a non-assisted version with an adequate detent for blade retention, make the unlock button either ambidextrous or bigger to facilitate making it easier to unlock while wearing gloves, and redesign its handle shape to be more comfortable in the hand. I'm just not a big fan of spring assisted knives and believe than anyone who thinks they're faster than someone with the adequate dexterity proficient enough to operate modern day folding knives with thumb studs is delusional. With all this said; the more I've been using it the more it's growing on me though

 At its $75 MSRP from SOG I'd say no way but at around the $32 I paid through Amazon Warehouse I'd say over all that this SOG’s a keeper. I may revise my 3 star rating later as I use it more.

 I pulled the trigger on a Flash II thinking it would be the perfect EDC knife capable of more substantial tasks and performing just as well as its little brother Flash I. Sadly, I was very disappointed. While I just love the blade shape and grind, the model II I got had TERRIBLE blade play that couldn't be corrected without cranking down the pivot to the point of sacrificing its operation as a folder. I returned it to SOG and after receiving a second knife that was just as bad

With all this said; the more I've been using it the more it's growing on me though. I'll probably keep this one as its pros outweigh its cons and it's bettter than its predecessor.

 The blade is definitely sharp and the snap open action is good, but those are two things SOG has always done well. I just can't figure out why it cost me over $50 to go back to a plastic handled knife. I assume it will hold up but it just feels cheap in the hand.  [EDIT] I followed the advice of several other people with my complaint and added a little lubrication (I used white lithium but I've heard a lot of people use a little gun oil) and the opening mechanism felt a lot less gritty and easier to work with

 A few decades later I've gone through several pocket knives and decided it was time for an upgrade to something that had a spring to help it pop open. All over the internet this knife was recommended and it seemed like a good price for a fairly decent knife. The last knife I bought was probably $25 and was all metal and looked pretty nice. Today this beast shows up in the mail and it feels like I've gone back to the dollar store knife

 There are some scratches on the blade, and even a little patina...just evidence of a well used knife

 I can honestly say the longevity of this knife has far exceeded my expectations. I'm almost 50 years old, I've owned/lost/broke countless pocket knives, and am simply amazed at how this one has held up.  I do have a couple minor gripes: This knife does have the SOG-typical blade play, both horizontal and vertical, that I don't much care for.

 If you treat this knife right, it will give you many years of reliable service, mine is proof.
