When cooking for a crowd, a good electric griddle can be a timesaver. This roomy griddle was the only one that varied less than 10 degrees from the set temperature across the cooking surface. Its indicator light was accurate: When the light switched off, the griddle was at the set temperature, and it made consistently golden-brown pancakes, crispy French toast, and evenly seared burgers. We appreciated its extra design features, including legs that prop up to angle the cooking surface and facilitate grease drainage and a detachable splash guard that kept grease splatter to a minimum. Though it took longer to heat than other griddles—about 10minutes to reach 350°F—we thought its consistent heating was worth the few extra minutes.

 First of all, it's got this stainless steel back slash back backsplash and it locks firmly into place it. also I don't know if you can see this or not. Has these little right there, these little leg lifts. What they do is they just pop down and since I'm doing the bacon first, I'm gonna leave it in that position

 Okay, what we're gonna do is just go ahead and take a look at the temperatures and that's at 299. Pretty much what you're looking for as far as cooking hashbrowns. The idea about this one is I can do a lot more I can fill this up and feed about four or five people, in which case in my pan, my old man I could really only do one two servings out of time. So I like the size again

 What few things remained on the surface after cooking came away easily, including the blueberry goo from the pancakes.  The manual says one side of the unit may be a tad hotter than the other, but I didn't find that to be the case. I used my laser gun to check temperature in various places and found them surprisingly even. When originally set to 375, the cooktop measured a bit over 400 when the heating light went off indicating readiness

  I have a folding Griddler and have never liked it. It doesn't get hot enough regardless of setting, takes forever to heat, isn't big enough and is a pain to store. I'm so happy to be donating it in favor of this unit. Although I've only used this griddle so far a few times, I'm extremely satisfied

 I was able to flip and fold the thing nicely when done. Because of the size of this unit, it's much easier to flip and move things as they don't have to be cheek-to-jowl squashed on there.  The back (for me, front) feet can be shifted to add about ¼" of height by swiveling the little extra piece up or down so the griddle sits flat or slightly tilted. While the unit doesn't look all that well crafted, it apparently is and does what it's supposed to

I put the cold batter on which caused the surface to cool to 365 and then it climbed back to the 375 and maintained that. Seemed good to me

Plain and simply, it just works

 Let the grill continue to sit and the surface temp will even out a great deal. After the light has been out a while I start cooking (right side 300d, left side 350d). Pancakes must be swapped between left and right sides to achieve even browning.  In the end the BK does a better job cooking than the $19 Rival

 So far I've found no use for the stainless back guard.  Final comment. I can't see touting this as a "Professional" griddle when the manual (using the term loosely) states it is limited to home use of two hours per day.

 Let the grill heat up until the light goes at. At this point I laser measured a 50%+ differential (right side 250d, left side 425d). Let the grill continue to sit and the surface temp will even out a great deal. After the light has been out a while I start cooking (right side 300d, left side 350d)

Kind of disappointed

 The cup stays in well and the leg tilt feature allowing the unit to lay flat or tilt slightly to allow the grease to flow into the cup flips easy. Points for this design.  Basically this unit is designed like they used to make them, thicker metal, thicker coatings, and heavier duty handles and cord in comparison to what Presto, West Bend and Black and Decker are making these days. If you have your grandmothers electric griddle keep it! If you need a new one go for this and stay away from the cheap Prestos and Black and Deckers

 It’s imposs to put the guard on without touching the grill, and as lightly as it touched it, I couldn’t believe all the small scratches.

. it is the exact same griddle as the other one that looks like it on Amazon but a lot cheaper. The model numbers match (hint hint). It heats up quicks, and you can start cooking immediately

 if people read the instructions, they would see that due to the bend in the heating element on the left side, it would tend to be hotter there. Quick cooking is for the left side, and things that should take longer, put those on the right side or on the outside edges.  The bad.

  Also, the splash guard does not sit flush to the grill and does not align correctly.  All in all. Cooks good, but the quality of the build is lacking. QC needs to look deeply in the scratching issue

..  On the good side, it does seem to distribute the heat evenly, although its manual notes the left side will get hotter due to the way the heating loop works (????), but I didn't notice that nor did Cook's, apparently. The non-stick surface did work, but again as the manual notes, it should be seasoned with oil periodically and I did find it needed that to release my pancakes easily

 It heated up quickly and the handles didn't get hot. And it is easy to clean, being fully submersible (with the power plug-in removed.)  Now on the not so good side, I was surprised that it wobbled due to uneven legs. The cooking surface feels similar to cast iron but was notably rougher towards the edge opposite where the drain hole is, although it didn't seem to effect the cooking

For this price, I expected more. I got this because my 20 year old one was beginning to stick. Cook's Illustrated rated it as the best performer, so despite the price being about double the competitors, I got it. I'm really not sure why it commands the price they charge, other than perhaps as Cook's says, its aluminum is heavier duty than others? Is it really? Or that it's non-stick surface is unique

 This grill is quite heavy and having a handle on both ends makes it easy to maneuver and handle. 2) The steel drip tray needs a better design to guide the grease drippings directly into the external spout that the drip bucket hangs on. The steel drip tray on this Pro Series 575 deposits grease falling into a channel from front to back inside the grill with very little of the drippings going into the spout exiting the grill that the drip bucket hangs on. This creates high maintenance mess inside the grill making it harder to clean

Easy to use with great results, but not without some maintenance cleaning issues!

Enraged from Broken Traeger after only 4 months

I have had a PRO 575 for 4 months now and the thing can’t hold a temp below 200. When set there it will run 40-50 degrees over and really doesn’t seem to be able to stay at or below 200. I’ve already replaced the thermocouple and controller and that hasn’t fixed anything. Traeger support said it’s a software issue, but they have no timeline for when it will get fixed

Considering the premium you’ll have to pay anyways getting it imported, I think the Timberline is a good value. Traegers are great easy to use grills, so you’re on the right track there. 

I should preface this by saying I'm based in the UK. I, of course, love smoked BBQ. It's not a very popular thing here in the UK, so I would like to convert friends and family. I host a monthly poker game with a few friends, normally comprising of about 9-12 players which need feeding so I thought the Timberline 1300 was a good size for that...

The choices here are very limited - I don't like that I'd be spending £2500 on a smoker, stings a little more knowing it's only $1999 in North America.... but at the same time, if it's great value for the money and it's able to last me 10 years then I'd be ok with it. This would be my one and only smoker.

I guess what I'm really after is confirmation bias... or for someone to say there's better smokers for less money...

Traeger Timberline 1300 for first smoker?

Update: I was partially incorrect. The controller temp is typically 25-40 degrees cooler than what the ambient temperature actually reads (I purchased a third party probe). So as long as you increase the temp by that amount to make up for it, it does maintain that temp really well. I updated my review to four starts

 Traeger shipped me a new controller and it made no difference.  The thermocoupler (heat probe) location is the worst location you can put it. You'll have a hard time not banging into it when putting the bottom grill grate in and out.  The hopper clean out should have at least been on the side of the box, not on the back

  RESEARCH AND GOOGLE TRAEGER PRO 575 BEFORE BUYING  This grill cannot maintain low temperatures. You want to use this thing for "low and slow" cooks. When you set it to low temps (below 300 in my experience), it rockets to temperatures much higher than you set the controller to. See pic
