Blood Rage vs Dixit

After choosing our settlement and road starting positions and getting into the initial turns, our friend suddenly stood up, ran to our restroom, and puked everywhere. And that was the end of Catan night.

According to legend, do slain warriors return from Valhalla to fight again as mortals? I don't know, but they do in this game. The cards offer the best incorporation of the theme. Thor cards grant benefits for winning battles, Loki grants benefits for losing them, etc. It would have been just as good with alien races or mech-fighters

With that being said, I think it was all fairly reasonable because most of these games have been played over 10 times each (even the most recent acquisitions) with the exception of Pax Pamir and Brass Birmingham because it’s harder to get those one played. I also think it was reasonable since we didn’t really spend a bunch of extra money on things, we just made the theme of gift giving holidays board games.

However, don't necessarily listen to me, because most of the people I game with prefer Blood Rage. And I have to admit that Blood Rage has a lot of things going for it. First of all, the rules are very simple, and it doesn't pull that card game trick where the complicated rules are embedded in the core cards. It's not hard to teach this game; it takes about fifteen minutes to explain to a bunch of relatively experienced board gamers, or twice that for more casual players

Finally, avoid vision intensive games. Tile laying games aren't great for example, though there are ways one can convert them to tactile games. Games like Mysterium and Dixit are complete impossibilities though.

Blood Rage is more a game of card drafting, clever warrior placement/movement, and misleading your opponents about your intentions. That's not to say that the cool Viking theme doesn't come through, because it absolutely does. I usually think that the Viking theme is a bit overdone, especially in board games, but it works here because Blood Rage is more about wanton death and widespread destruction than it is about bearded dudes in longboats fighting trolls. The rules of this game have just the right amount of complexity to them

Basically I play by giving a clue that I know only one person would figure out. My son (13) and I just watched planet of the Apes, so I gave a clue that said monkeys (but the card looked like the Statue of Liberty's arm coming out of the dirt) and he guessed the right card, but the other players did not. Our friend (Wilma") played this game and did not get any points. she was super bad at the game

This is tough without knowing more about your preferences, budget, play group, etc. Which of those games gets played the least/most? Have you rated them all on BGG or something?

It takes a long time, the phases are a bit confusing, and the set up is a bit clumsy (possibly because the rules didn't translate that well from Polish to English). I like it, quite a bit, but even the Dixit lovers in my playing groups don't seem keen on it. Nor the Clue players.

That was sometimes broken up by your workers being captured and sold. God forbid someone do something crazy like build or contribute to the chapel.

Because both the pieces and game board are quite smooth, the pieces very easily shift around, making it difficult to keep proper score as the bunnies advance. All this said, the game play is very fun, and I didn't find myself really caring too much about the score even thoguh pieces kept falling and sliding around. The game was a hit with my family over Christmas vacation, and everyone commented that they liked how even people who are usually "good at games" could still do well.

* I hate mini cards. I know this is another quibble. Everything in this game so so nice and sleek, except for the card size. A lot of games use mini cards, and they annoy me

But I think four is the WORST number of people to play it at. When I played it with my family (all ages) for a total of six players, we all had a BLAST! I think five would be similarly fun. I also think a large part of the fun was the specific people. My friends are much more into strategy and trivia games, with the occasional Cards Against Humanity shock-and-laugh game thrown in
