 Hi, I'm Tom. I just got done skiing the Blizzard Wrestler 9 back for another year,

 and this continues to be an exceptional all-mountain ski. It's a super versatile ride,

 so anybody from a pretty athletic intermediate up through an expert level skier is going to be able

 to hop on this and really, really enjoy it. The DRT metal construction in this keeps things

 really powerful, but without too much demand on the skier. You don't have to work super hard on

 these. They're not going to beat you up all day, but they're really going to allow you to charge

 as hard as you want. At 9,400 foot, it's definitely aimed at a skier who's going to

 be spending more of their time on hard pack, 60, 70% of their time, but it's got enough of

 a progressive tip shape that the thing breaks loose. It skids, it smears. It's got that true

 kind of freeride vibe to it, so you can take it off trail. It's a fantastic bump ski, a little

 bit of powder, trees. It's super at home, but honestly, anybody that's looking to push their

 all-mountain game, but doesn't want to have to commit to something wider, this is a great choice.

Metal in a ski doesnt automatically make it an expert only ski. The blizzard Rustler 9 has some metal but is super accessible, it's still wider than you need. I would recommend getting Dynastars that you liked for low tide conditions and just rent/demo fat skis if you happen to catch those conditions when you travel. I'm not a fan of the Kore skis for resort skiing, they are a tricky combination of light and stiff

I skied a decent amount in high school, then went to college and grad school in places that did not allow for it.  I got back into skiing when I was 45, and now, 4 years later, I'm ready to buy skis again.  I've got my choices narrowed down to three skis and was hoping to get some advice before I pull the trigger.  I'd say I'm at the upper range of intermediate at this point, and I've improved and pushed my self each year. I love black groomers and successfully pulled off some double black bowls at Breck this year.  I'm never going to huck it, but I love the steeps, and my confidence is growing.  I want to be able to enjoy those and get into the trees from time to time, but I also just want to own just one ski right now that I can do all mountain out west, be at home on groomers, and still ski at my midwest home mountain alone and with my young son.  I've only had I'd say one day of fresh (more than 3 inches) snow in three years of going to CO, so I don't see a lot of point in optimizing for it. I could always demo something if the snow gets really deep.

The current plan is to buy an affordable set of skis during the end of year sales (targeting $400 for skis), an affordable set of bindings in the 10 to 12 din range, and then buy boots at full price when winter comes around again at my only local ski shop so I can get reasonably fit.  I'm targeting skis in the 84 to 94 mm width range, and I prefer forgiveness, ease of turning, and fun over charging. I'm 6'1" and usually less than 180 lbs., but I'm most comfortable on slightly shorter skis (177 mm or so).  I over bought skis when I was in HS and never grew into them- I don't want to repeat that now.  My ski time is limited, and I'm more focused on enjoying what I get than buying headroom for growth. Good thing about being an adult is I can always buy another set of skis later.  So- here's what I'm thinking.  I'd love to hear opinions on individual skis or what people with experience think would be good for me.

1) Dynastar m-pro 84.  I demoed these this winter and loved them, but we had no fresh snow whatsoever.  Perfect for the spring conditions we had out west, and would be perfect at home in midwest, but I worry that they would be too narrow on some trips to CO.  The lack of snow this year kept me from demoing wider skis (as was my plan). Did find some deep snow in the glades in Keystone and honestly, they got stuck a few times.  These are the least expensive option, and I know them, but I worry they are not a one ski solution.  Would buy them right now if I could have two skis or never skied out west.

2) Solomon QST 93.  Widest ski I would consider, seems like a jack of all trades that no one hates but few absolutely love.  Feel like I could get this and be fine, but not optimal most of the time.  Affordable this time of year.  Petty, but I don't like the top sheet.  This seems like the ski to get if I don't really want to think about the choice. Have not skied it.

3) Atomic Maverick 86c.  88 mm in 176 mn length, this feels like a good intermediate option.  I'm told it carves well but also does well in powder for the length and is quick in trees.  I'm leaning towards this. Same price as the QST, but I can get a package deal with decent bindings that would make it cheaper. Petty, but best top sheet of the three.  Have not skied it. Not the most talked about ski in this width, but seems to have good reviews. 

I've considered many other options (Kore &amp; Kore X specifically, thought declivity but not available in my price range at this point), but I think these three make the most sense for my needs and price point.  I'm also not sure I'm ready for metal in the ski in regards to other options.

Advice on my top three skis

 If you're interested in these skis you really ought to try them both if you get a chance. The Rustler series brings the playfulness. You know snappy, light, fun, quick, more versatile in the turn shape. Overall I think the reason I own a Rustler is because that appeals to me more than the big grip and the long radius turn chops of the Bonafide

 All right, we are back at the WWSRA on snow demo mountain with Mountain Calif. Riding now the Blizzard Rustler 9. Rustler 9 is right there. There you go

 There is metal underfoot obviously and it extends toward the tip and tail but not all the way and not edge to edge. It's an interesting design. It's a fun ski and really I think if you want a more playful, lighter, snappier ski but you want one of these Blizzard All Mountain skis, the Rustler might be the one for you. So in that sense I say try it if you can and that's all I have to say for now

 All right, we are back at the WWSRA on snow demo mountain with Mountain Calif. Riding now the

 Blizzard Rustler 9. Rustler 9 is right there. There you go. I'm riding a 180.

 This is 94 millimeters underfoot. I own the Rustler 10. It's a slightly wider

 ski at 102. We kind of expect the Rustler 9 to be a little bit carvier because of

 that narrower waist and and that's kind of how I'm seeing it. If you're wondering

 the Rustler series not coming back for fall 2022 with any big changes, basically

 the same ski. Maybe there's some minor tweaks if so they didn't tell me. You

 know it's an interesting contrast from the Bonafide. If you're interested in

 these skis you really ought to try them both if you get a chance. The Rustler

 series brings the playfulness. You know snappy, light, fun, quick, more versatile in

 the turn shape. Overall I think the reason I own a Rustler is because that

 appeals to me more than the big grip and the long radius turn chops of the Bonafide.

 You know I read a review in one of the magazines that said that the

 Rustler was actually for high-level skiers and I was kind of surprised

 because they're so damn good at soft snow and they make skiing soft snow so

 easy but I think maybe the maybe the criticism was that to make good carve

 turns especially on the Rustler 10 takes a lot of technical skill and I would

 agree with that. It's not like the Bonafide. You can't as easily just roll

 it onto its edge and expect it to make a beautiful GS turn for you. The

 Rustler 9 is better in that regard. I think it is easier to make those kinds

 of turns. It doesn't take as much finesse or skill so maybe maybe this is the more

 versatile ski of the two, the 9 or the 10. I'm not sure. You know one thing I
