For those preferring a smoother coffee taste, the Bialetti 4-Cup Musa combines beauty and elegance in a tastefully designed stovetop espresso maker.  It should be dried after a soft scrubbing and rinsing with bare hands and not left to dry on its own in the dish rack. I switched from my older Primula espresso maker to the Bialetti, because this Bialetti is made of stainless steel and the Primula is made of aluminum. There are indications that aluminum containers used for consumable liquids are problematic especially for brain health. I recommend this Bialetti stainless steel espresso maker

I know Bialetti is "the company" for good espresso percolators but they need to get a handle on their product quality. This is the second one I've purchased (different model) that has had an issue with something falling off after reasonable use. The venus one had the lid come off and this one had the handle come apart from the lid. I can still use the unit but it's nice to be able to open the lid without getting burned

This is a very good quality item but it is smaller than it sounds! Probably not even enough for one person.  I would recommend getting at least the medium size one, or definitely get the large one if you ever have more than 2 people to serve.

I just received my coffee maker. Looks good. Nice sturdy looking handle(Debut came of after 2 years) the water chamber seems like it is made from stainless steel and won’t rust (Bivino rusted after years) I have bought several espresso machines in the past 5 years bc after a while the inside rusts, parts fall off. Let’s see how this one holds up

I'm not a huge ultralight backpacker. I just use a small Bialetti Moka Express pot. Pretty simple to use, easy to clean, and basically idiotproof.

Currently I have a GSI Coffee Rocket. It's a lightweight percolator made specifically for backpacking.

Pros -It's lightweight and compact, allows for any size cup. 
Cons -It can spill over very easy if you're not careful, and is difficult to clean if you need to conserve water. 

I want to hear what you all pack in and how it works for you! Titanium Press, Instant packs, Keurig strapped to a drone &amp; solar charger?

Coffee Addicts! What is your setup?

Now it’s a piece of decoration, because i won’t be using it again, doesn’t seem worth it.

So I finally gave the Moka Pot a shot after someone said that a Moka Pot with Bustelo will make ANY coffee taste like swill water.

I bought a Moka Pot and a packet of Bustelo and brewed a cup for my dad as he like dark coffee. The first brew came out ok. I tasted it and it was fine. Nothing to write home about but it was good. I used James Hoffmann's recommended method.

Second brew came out darker. I had to add condensed milk and sugar to be able to down the thing. But it was good. 

I could definitely see why someone would like this type of coffee. Its good. It's better than the burn starbucks stuff. But damn, It's way over hyped.

I am excited to try it with some ice. Its perfect for iced drinks.

The biggest weakness of the Mokapot is how finicky it is. I feel like its a nightmare to clean and doesnt instill confidence when brewing. 

I think a fellow prismo with a dark roasted bean would yeald a much better result and be more controllable.

The Moka Pot Hype Disappointment

  Melting handles: Use on a small burner/small flame on a little over medium heat. High heat on a larger burner will obviously damage these things, it's just common sense. Nothing made of plastic and connected to metal is meant to sit over high heat for long periods of time.  People have also complained about leaking in the center which I have thankfully not experienced

  If you keep all this in mind you'll get great tasting coffee out of this cool appliance. Care for it and follow the directions and it will care for you.

 Ignore the nonsense about "seasoning" the pot with coffee oils unless you like the taste of old, stale coffee. Never put it in a dishwasher or use soap or anything abrasive when cleaning or the pot will be ruined.  Melting handles: Use on a small burner/small flame on a little over medium heat. Great espresso like coffee without expensive and complicated machines.

My Encore is great for anything from French Press, V60, even Moka Pot. I get some fines surely, but the taste in the V60 is consistently good IMO. The adjustments aren’t precise enough for espresso but I’ve been very pleased with it for V60

New to pour over, picked up some cheap beginner's hand grinder (Hero S01) and a V60, couldn't figure out why my coffee always tasted bitter even though they're fresh light roasted beans (allowed to de-gas for 7 days) and I grind them coarse. Went through 2 bags of beans, tried every grind size, pouring technique, etc, and was gonna give up, but then I picked up a sifter intending to give it one last shot. I weighed out 18 grams of beans, grounded them and then used the sifter to sift out the fines. Was expecting a bit of fines, but when I looked, there was like a heaping teaspoon of it, 1.9 grams to be exact.

So I brewed up the 16.1 grams of coffee at a 1:16.5 ratio, then bam! Super delicious coffee, most of the unpleasant bitterness was gone. Repeated the process with another bag of beans, same thing happened.

TL;DR: don't cheap out on your grinder even if it's your first pour over grinder. If you really can't buy a better grinder, you should at least buy a sifter while you save up. Yes, you may waste some coffee sifting out the fines, but it's a game changer.

I've worked out why my pour over tasted like crap.

 Make sure the flame is just perfect & the coffee doesn't come up strong or way to slow--better slow than fast, but with experience, you'll get the hang of it.

 I suppose the French Roast is just as good an idea. You can search for the vacuum packed coffee that is made IN ITALY, but why go thru all that trouble when our American coffee will do just fine? I am more than happy with Folgers & the grind is just fine! I would suggest using filtered water! We once got espresso coffee in a can that was made by Italian-Americans & we took it back to the grocery store for a refund because it was burned black! That is NOT how they do coffee in Italy!!! To play it safe, just get your regular Folgers or whatever--OK French roast, OK also Colombian medium-darker roast, just don't get the coffee burned black! YIKES!!! Once you have done your first coffee, you just rinse & dry. You only have to wash it once in a great while when the coffee stains increase on the inside of the top serving portion. Save yourself the problems of filters, & expensive coffee makers
