 I think the Mini-Grip really hits on both of those things. While it leans slightly more towards the "hard use" end of the pool, the Mini-Grip comes close to being a perfectly balanced EDC knife. If you're going to exceed the $50.00 range with one knife, I would recommend that it be this knife

 Super impressed. I guess what I'm saying is that even though fit and finish aren't perfect, you may be perfectly assured they'll make it right if you aren't happy. These people are serious about keeping customers, and I don't doubt this is part of that hefty initial price-tag.  Ease of Maintenance:  Another POTENTIAL problem area

 Put more plainly, it will hold a "utility edge" (can't shave with it but still quite useful) for a really, really long time. Easily a competitor to s30v.  Deployment Method: One-handed ambidextrous. Very old school, field-tested-and-approved thumb studs, both average in size and shape

 I won't wear this knife with suits or khaki pants because it will readily tear them up. Even my cargo shorts and jeans wear noticeably after clipping this knife quite a bit. You can cure this by working the clip and sanding the contact point, but from the factory, beware and guard your pants!  2. Discretion - not great here, either

Fantastic EDC but pocket shredder

 My pinkie is hanging off the back of the thing and so it doesn't really feel like its firmly in my hand. Came very sharp. As Far as the Axis lock goes I have a few knives by a Chinese maker that does it better in my opinion .(yes I know they stole it) Could just be that they fit my hand better

Wanted to love it

  The AXIS lock is very nice, and always feels secure with no movement of the blade. I've had frame and liner locked blades feel like they could move, especially if you opened the blade gently and did not get a firm *click* into place, and this is a very good solution with no drawbacks. I had never used one before this purchase, but it is the most quality locking mechanism I've ever felt and my favorite feature of the knife now.  The overall size is exactly what I wanted

 The grip also feels solid and quality, although some pictures seem "plasticy" in appearance. In my focused attempts at twisting or deforming it did not flex or yield in any way. It looks and feels like a quality piece of functional hardware. No frills or decorations, but strong and useful construction

 I work in an industrial plant and wanted a quality knife that I wouldn't be afraid to use when I need it. I have used it for shaving debris off of rollers, cutting various sized air hoses, plastic tie wraps, small cables, gasket materials, etc..

Great EDC choice

 Sometimes it's smooth sometimes its a bit rough. The blade shape is great, the thumb studs are okay although I prefer holes over studs, as far as studs go they are very functional. My main problem with the knife is the distance between the thumb ramp area on the spine and the finger choil. When I hold the knife I keep wanting to put my index finger on the base of the blade because the finger choil area on the handle is too low on the knife relative to the thumb ramp

It's alright. The materials and quality construction/fit and finish prompt me to give it four stars. If construction wasn't so great and all I had was the design to base my review on I would give it three stars.  The knife came fairly sharp, it shaves hair but can't whittle hair in the air

Solid knife

 My mini grip didn't come super hair shaving sharp out of the box like all my Spyderco knives but it was still better than my kershaw / cold steel knives brand new.  Honestly my only main gripe is how the knife feels in hand. It's not bad, but not comfortable for me. Keep in my mind this is just my opinion

 Their warranty is by far the best I've dealt with in a long time, no questions asked regarding my issue. They're also taking care of me and are sending out a free deep carry pocket clip on top of it (something anyone with a benchmade can request, there's a few other sweet models to choose from). With my main problem taken cared of and putting the knife through it's paces over the weekend I can safely say I love the thing already. The axis lock is nice when needing one handed operation

 The response was very fast, something not very common with other vendors, and pleasant at that. While they where taking care of me on their side I was also speaking with benchmade via email. Their warranty is by far the best I've dealt with in a long time, no questions asked regarding my issue. They're also taking care of me and are sending out a free deep carry pocket clip on top of it (something anyone with a benchmade can request, there's a few other sweet models to choose from)

 I should note that the 2 Sanremu's are the same size as the Benchmade. Being a bigger guy, I need something with a little more heft.  I'm actually very disappointed right now. I really wanted to like the Benchmade, but when it seems like it's of lesser quality (build/tolerance, not blade steel quality) than the other 2, I can't do anything with it, other than return it and buy something else

 I've collected knives for nearly 40 years, and honestly can't believe the lack of quality in this knife. After seeing many posts in blade forums and Facebook groups, it seems that sadly, I'm not alone. Many others I've spoken with have gotten sub-par quality Griptillians. I can understand getting lesser quality when you buy the lower end knives from any manufacturer, but this is just unacceptable

Not much I can add to what others have said. Great size, durable and SHARP. The 154CM steel holds an edge for a good long time. Haven't had to try to resharpen yet so I can't say how that will go

  The axis lock isn't the strongest out there but I like how you can flick it open like a normal folder or just pull on the release and swing it open.  The one negative that I have with it is the price. Benchmade still uses 154cm on this model which is a decent steel but I feel as if they should offer a higher grade steel in 2016.

And so that's really what bothers me about the Tenacious at this point.  The Para 3 you're getting over $100 at that point, but frankly, if all you can afford is the 50 bucks, I would say go with one of these knives, don't go with a Spyderco, save your money and get a Spyderco that is a really good Spyderco that you're going to be really happy with. If you save up for that Para 3, you're going to be really happy with the Para 3. So that's sort of my rant for today and is this a bad knife? No, it's not a bad knife, but it doesn't stand up to where it is in the market and it's not even close. That's really my issue with it

 I hate to rag on it so much, but especially because it is an iconic knife, and yes it is an iconic knife, I recognize that. And honestly this was at one point a really, really good deal, but it's not anymore, especially over the last two, three years. The market's really changed. I mean, 20 bucks more and you can get 20 CV in some models from Kershaw, or you can get S35VN from Civivi

Why the Spyderco Tenacious Is a Bad Buy

 Triple EEDC back again with another knife video.

 This is the Spyderco Tenacious and I'm going to tell you why this is no longer a good buy

 So this has been the entry level to Spyderco for quite a bit.

 I'm not going to do a full review here because it's been reviewed to death, but this has

 been the entry level sort of round hole, spidey hole knife for a lot of people for years.

 And I'm going to tell you this is no longer a knife that you should go with as sort of

 It still is sort of entry level to Spyderco, but I'm going to tell you that I would I would

 advise not getting this and getting something else from Spyderco instead and I'll get into

 So let's go ahead and talk about a couple of quick size comparisons, the CJRB RIA and

 And then we'll also do the Civivi Ortis, a couple of budget options.

 So let's talk about, you know, the one saving grace of this as far as materials go is the

 it does have full stainless steel construction that are that are weight relieved, as you

 can see in there, and it's G10 construction.

 But what isn't good is a couple of things here, the blade.

 So the blade has a couple of things I don't like about it.

 One is 8CR13MOV steel in today's market.

 The vast majority of companies, especially companies getting manufactured out of China,

 A lot of other companies have moved on to D2.

 9CR18MOV is very well pretty superior to 8CR13MOV.

 So I think that's been shown by a lot of the people doing cut testing on YouTube.

 So if you're still using 8CR13MOV in this day and age on a knife in the $50 price range

 because this thing ranges, you know, usually around I think this one's $47 and it ranges

 up to about $55 or so, $60 for Tenacious, every once in a while they go on sale.

 And I know for a little bit they were $12 at Walmart and everyone just sort of bought

 But frankly, other than the $12 sale from Walmart, any of the other price ranges I'm

 So we're going to talk about that 8CR13MOV is a problem.

 The blade itself is, this is not a scratch resistant coating or anything like that.

 So this will, the blade will get messed up pretty easily on here.

 Now there are certain versions of this, so it's not a big deal, but if you're getting

 a coated version, just be aware that it is paint and it is not a coating that's not going

 One of the other things that I don't like about this is the Teflon washers in here.

 They are, they don't give a good action at all.

 I mean, if you're used to Spydercos being able to drop shut, this is not one that's

 As you can see here, in addition, you can hear squeaking.

 So that squeaking is in the pivot and it's because of the Teflon washers.

 It leaves way too much of the knife sticking out.

 The lanyard hole is right in the middle.

 I can't believe with Spydercos CQI that they do their constant quality improvement.

 They haven't improved on this design by moving the clip up and getting rid of that lanyard

 I think they should have done that years ago.

 It does have a four-way clip positioning here.

 So that is one saving grace, but for the most part, the clips are not good on here.

 The ergonomics on here, a lot of people like the ergonomics on here.

 I do not like the ergonomics on here for a couple of reasons.

 One is no choil here, but that's really not the big issue.

 The big issue is I don't find this thumb ramp comfortable.

 I do find the thumb ramp comfortable on the Para 3 and I do find it comfortable on the

 I do not find it comfortable on the Tenacious.

 Also a Spyderco liner lock, while not terrible, is not something I necessarily prefer.

 And just overall, I don't find the cutting action with this thumb ramp to be comfortable

 The way I naturally want to hold this, I feel sort of tension up in my arm right there when

 I don't like that and I shouldn't feel that way.

 If I had to rate the ergonomics on this, honestly, it'd probably be about a five if I'm trying

 But for prolonged cutting, you start to feel a little bit in the arm.

 I don't feel that on pretty much any other knife.

 Now as far as price goes, this is cheaper and you can get these scales for the same

 price as, I'm talking about the scales on the whole knife, for the same price as this.

 This is D2 and it's Micarta, which is Contoured Micarta.

 This is Contoured Micarta and RMP9, which is, I believe, a similar steel also to D2.

 I think that's what they said it was, it's like powder formed D2 or something like that.

 The normal price on this is $35, it's like $55 in this configuration.

 The Civivi Ortis, which has a way slicier blade, I mean the slicing ability on the Ortis

 far exceeds the edge on here and frankly, the factory edge on the Civivi is much nicer.

 In addition, this is going to be, not drop shot, but it's going to be on bearings so

 it's going to be a lot nicer of an action on this.

 This one's on bearings as well, very nice action on this.

 So you're going to get sort of much nicer builds all around, still from a Chinese company.

 It's not like, again, these are all China made knives, so it's not like the Spyderco

 just because it has a facility in the USA, it's not like they're made in the USA.

 Each one of these knives other than Tenacious is a better knife, objectively a better knife,

 and most of these are cheaper than the Tenacious.

 This just does not fit in today's market, it just doesn't.

 And you guys can fight me on that, but I can give you at least 15 more examples of knives

 that I would rather have over the Tenacious at that price point, possibly more.

 And so that's really what bothers me about the Tenacious at this point.

 And I just don't see Spyderco, I see them resting on their laurels, I don't like to

  The Spyderco "bug" and company name seems to be etched into the blade. This is a nice touch, many of Spyderco's competitors appear to use an ink or dye for blade logos. With that said, quality control was asleep at the wheel with my knife because the etching on my knife is offset when compared to others.  Recently, my knife was put to the test when we had to cut the rear window out of a truck(I know,use the proper tool, and no,I did not lock my keys in the truck)

  Don't forget about the price. No,you can't forget the money. SPYDERCO KNIVES COST MEGABUCKS! I was never crazy about the idea of a $150 dollar knife disappearing on a medical run.  Well,now I own a plain edge Tenacious and I can now tell my friend without any question that Benchmade,SOG,and CRKT are all,dollar for dollar,still better knives than any Spyderco

 The flat ground leaf blade has an even brushed finish with two bronze washers to help smooth blade movement. Finish on the liners match the blade perfectly and the black G10 grips are top notch. The 4-way pocket clip has a high polish finish and carries Spyderco's well known"bug". The handle has a metal reenforced hole for a lanyard and the knife is finished out with stainless hex screws showing off it's screw together construction

 I just never got around to it, probably for the past five years maybe.

 I liked some of the designs, how they looked, and then others I just thought were horribly

 And it's crazy because there's barely any difference or variance in how they actually

 Oh, and let's not even get into my favorite knife or my favorite EDC knife.

 I don't know how long that's going to be the case now, but my Emerson Kershaw CQC9K.

 Yeah, witchcraft, it has to be witchcraft.

 Let's see how much or how long this thing is.

 Roughly right under seven inches, just under three inches for the blade.

 It holds up, it's in the same ballpark size wise.

 I mean, obviously the CQC9K is beefier, but it's a decent size blade.

 So the steel on this is going to be 8CR13MOV, pretty standard budget steel.

 Great for sharpening, not that great at holding the edge.

 Liner lock on this is pretty nice, to be honest with you.

 Solid, I don't think that's going to, no, that's definitely not going anywhere.

 I guess something really cool too is the jimping.

 I know that with the paramilitary too, it actually has a section right here on the blade

 So that would have been nice, but I mean, it's not bad.

 I don't think it's quite as good as my CQC9K.

 Man, you could just plow through anything with this.

 And the fact that it's a recurve blade, man, forget about it.

 And lastly, it does, you know, it feels good in the hand.

 It does feel pretty good in the hand, definitely does.

 So hands down, the Emerson Wave Design knives are going to be the fastest to deploy, no

 They literally deploy while you're taking them out.

 There's honestly not going to be anything faster than the Emerson Wave Designs.

 So I knew for speed wise, this isn't really going to match up or so I thought.

 I may have actually discovered a faster way than the Wave or not necessarily faster, but

 And it's actually really cool because it allows you to draw in reverse blade.

 So it's almost like it gets you a little CQC action going on.

 Now the Emerson Kershaw's come tip up, which is great.

 But the Spyderco Tenacious that I got came tip down.

 Not trying to start a debate over tip up versus tip down.

 But it's pretty good. And although this blade, this knife is made in China, I don't think that that should keep you from buying this knife for fear of quality. I've been handling a lot of the knives made by Spyderco that come from China lately. And they're surprisingly good knives
