I have been using my KOA D2 elk hunter for the past ten years. It's a great knife, but at the end of last season I decided to start looking at some of the higher end steels. I am on a bit of a quest to find a knife that will remain sufficiently sharp through an entire elk. I have several benchmade pocket knives and I really like them so I decided to try a couple of their hunting knives to see how I like their design/feel and to test the edge holding retention on elk hide

O.G all failed this knife has great steel and the blade sharpness has some serious endurance! This thing easily competes with my 100+ dollar knives.

This is a spendy knife but it is well worth the price. I purchased the firstlite edition knife because it is $30 cheaper on Amazon than anywhere else at the moment.

Not a bad knife, blade quality seems good, but mine required some tightening of the pivot screw for the blade so it centered up inside the handle while closed. I have small hands, but I still felt like I couldn’t get quite enough purchase on the grip. Overall not a terrible knife for the money, but nothing to get excited about. I feel like Buck missed the mark here, and could’ve made some tweaks to make it really great

But for those looking for a tough fixed blade that weighs scant ounces for hunting, this one should be high on the list.
