 For a quick run down on the specifications, we've got an overall length of 8.4 inches a blade length of 3.6 inches with a 3.5 6-inch cutting edge

 The blade thickness comes in at 0.1, 2 inches. The closed length on the knife comes in at 4.8

 We'Ve seen this with the benchmade line of grip dillion's this year, and it looks like we're also going to be seeing that in some of their other designs, this knife has been upgraded to a blade steel of s30v from 154cm. So you are gon na get a greater level of wear resistance and a high level of corrosion resistance on this blade. The handle materials have been upgraded to g10, so you're gon na get a much more durable material. There'S a warmer in hand feel and there's also a significant amount of texturing on the knife

Benchmade 580-2 CPM S30V Barrage Overview

I bought this knife as an every day carry / work knife understanding that I probably would not put it through the same trials as my last knife, which I still carry in my bunker coat.

Excellent Everyday Carry

This is great medium weight knife. Benchmade sells a lot lighter, and there are a lot heavier knives. I wouldn't use this knife to live in the forest but I wouldn't go there without it. Its a great middle ground of weight and size

 I bought the knife to use at my work in a commercial kitchen to open receiving shipments and blade will stand up to cardboard all day long. It has a good grip I just with there was some sort of rubberizing on the finger holds but anything they would put on would flake off so most likely that is for best.

 The blade stays sharp and is relatively easy to sharpen. The only downside, if it is a downside, is the fact that the Axis locking mechanism tends to collect dust and grime, but with a Q Tip, it's easy to clean. Overall, very satisfied with this knife. American made is the way to go

 The blade is made of exceptional quality steel and the handle is of equal quality. I have beaten the hell out of this knife and the paint on the pocket clip is the only visible sign of age. The blade stays sharp and is relatively easy to sharpen.  Overall, very satisfied with this knife. American made is the way to go. If you are buying a knife and want a quality larger sized folder that is durable as hell, buy the Barrage. And the reviewer whose locking mechanism failed to function correctly must've received a lemon, because there is no way a Benchmade would fail like that

 Parting thoughts, I think the Chaparral is a great little knife at just north of $100, I think it represents a good value, you get the premium steel, exceptional fit and finish from the Taichung Taiwan factory and then you've got Spyderco's just signature very very practical design, thumb hole, great ergonomics, just general thoughtfulness that Spyderco is known for in this small discrete package that you can carry every day and open up and use it and nobody will bat an eye at it so I just think that it's a really practical choice, I like the Chaparral a lot and recommend it if you're at all interested in the knife.  There's an internal stop pin and apparently that functions similarly to the triad lock on a cold steel lock back and that is designed to have a lot of the pressure hit that stop pin than rather hit the tang and the back spring of the back lock and what that will do is prevent up and down play which does develop on some of the other Spyderco lock backs namely the Endura and Delica, the Japanese plastic handled Spyderco lock backs are notorious for developing up and down play and this was a move on Spyderco's part to try to mitigate that and so far I mean it totally works, there's no issues here with blade play up and down side to side, very robust so I think that that was a good choice to put that stop pin in there. Anyhow, that pretty much takes us through the entire knife, all the features and specs and my thoughts on it. Blade stock is thin, it's only 2 millimeters thick. Let's compare that real quick with the Sage I that has a 3 millimeter thick blade. You can see it's a big difference and it translates not only to the weight and size and thickness of the knife but also the cutting performance

Spyderco Chaparral Review

 What's up guys, it's Dan for Blade Reviews back again with another knife review.

 This time around we're going to be checking out the Spyderco Chaparral, frankly a knife

 I wish I purchased earlier and could have enjoyed earlier in my knife collecting adventure

 here because I really do like this one a lot.

 It's just a super practical, super functional EDC knife, small, discreet.

 I've got it next to the Sage I and that's no coincidence there.

 As some of you may know, the Sage I is one of my favorite EDC knives, it's been in my

 rotation for over four years now and I still regularly carry and use the Sage I and I still

 enjoy it after all these years and I can't say that about every knife that's crossed

 So I think it says something and obviously the Chaparral here shares many similarities

 to the Sage I so it should come as no surprise that this is largely going to be a positive

 With that said, let's just rattle off some quick specifications.

 The Chaparral has an overall length of 6.375 inches, it's got a 2.8 inch long blade and

 weighs only 2.5 ounces so very nice, small, pocketable EDC knife, great option for urban

 or suburban EDC if you're working in an office or just want something that has a smaller

 footprint but still has plenty of functionality, thoughtful design.

 I think the Chaparral would be a great choice.
