If you can help get her close to dialed in for the beans she likes then it’s just one button on the grinder to dose, tamp, then one button on the breville.

Hey guys! I'm new to this subreddit, but I'm looking for some real advice and a lot of the articles that pop up when I read this are sponsored.

My mum is partially sighted but getting into coffee. What is the easiest machine you can buy that still maintains high quality? Or at least what is the best blend of the two? Ideally she'd like to use the coffee she buys with it, but if that's not an option, I'd just like to know what is. 

I'm not interested in milk, she's gotten into black coffee, so it doesn't need to have a steamer (and honestly I'd be afraid of her hurting herself). 

She has poor depth perception and would struggle with reading. 

As she can't go out alone, she can't go to all the coffee houses she likes. I take her out as much as I can around work, but this feels like a problem I can solve for her. I don't want her to miss out because of her eyesight.

Safe Espresso Machine?

When looking for an entry to mid-level Electric Burr Grinder, there are several names that will inevitably pop up, and this is one of them: the Barrazza Sete. It has an extremely recognizable shape and people have no trouble recommending the Sete 30, 270 and 270 Wi in each of their respective price brackets. But how do they actually stack up? Well, be sure to hit that like button and subscribe because we're about to find out [Music] before we get going. I want to make it very clear that I purchased this grinder with my own money, and all of the opinions in this video are explicitly my own

 so I can comment on the entire product lineup. Starting off with the design and build quality, I was immediately struck by just how different this grinder is, both visually and form factor wise. Personally, I kind of like the unique looks, but I can definitely see them being a little divisive depending on the styling of the kitchen you plan to put it in. The countertop footprint is extremely compact, but then it sweeps up to a wider top section and perched on top of that is a 400 gram hopper

I opted to buy the 270wi because within this grinder, I effectively have a Sette 30, Ascete, 270 and a 270wi all in one. so I can comment on the entire product lineup. Great machine thus far. Only complaint is how loud it runs. If I could slow it down to reduce the noise I gladly would.

Grind size distribution- well there are more fines than I was expecting compared to my old cheapo burr grinder, but i don't believe it's a high percentage by weight. A few larger flat shaped grinds get through, but again I think it's not a significant percentage. When the chemex drawdown is done, the grinds at the top of the bed seem very uniform. Again, I don't have much to compare to

Works well so far

 As before, the operation is (very!) loud and the grind is right on. I've changed the rating to 4-stars because of the failure after 4 months; that failure is balanced by the excellent support. At this point I feel the design concept is just too good for 3 stars, but the failure rate isn't at all impressive and can't be ignored.  Update #5 (2 Apr 2019): The replacement 270Wi is still running exactly as it should

 That magic ended today when the grinder refused to recover. I'm afraid my tentative 5-star rating has shrunk to 1-star. Considering how long folks have complained about the failure rate, I have to agree with the reviewer who said this grinder just isn't ready for prime time.  Now we'll see how well Baratza service handles the problem

 At this point I feel the design concept is just too good for 3 stars, but the failure rate isn't at all impressive and can't be ignored.  Update #5 (2 Apr 2019): The replacement 270Wi is still running exactly as it should. Couldn't be happier with the design concept. It's loud and it grinds perfect doses for espresso

 You have to use the plastic cup they ship you. Don't turn it on with the plastic cup or it can get confused and stop half way.  The coffee adjustment is nice, but I have to put tape on it or the grind wanders on the fine adjustment.  It's not quite setting your money on fire, but it is not a buy once grinder

The Lido E manual coffee grinder is designed especially for espresso. It features a dual bearing system to deliver the grind consistency required for espresso & Turkish coffee. The grind setting mechanism is based on an extremely fine thread adjustment stack which allows very small particle size changes to be made easily and repeatably. French Press Coffee

 It's larger in size than most manual grinders but I'm not planning to travel with it so I don't care. I have to say I am really impressed. This thing will grind finer than my Mazzer. I can also say there is a noticeable taste difference between conical and flat burr grinders

 The shots brewed with the Lido taste different from the Mazzer. I can't say one is better than the other, they are just different and I really like the flavor of both. It's added variety to my shots. Now I cycle between the two grinders and really enjoy the difference

 This thing will grind finer than my Mazzer. I can also say there is a noticeable taste difference between conical and flat burr grinders. The shots brewed with the Lido taste different from the Mazzer. I can't say one is better than the other, they are just different and I really like the flavor of both

 I'm gonna get through these beans much more quickly. Let's take a look at what we've got here. Yeah, that's excellent. That would make for a really good French press

 this is a very large bean hopper for a manual grinder, actually dual bronze axle bearings, stepless adjustment, unbreakable steel conic burr. I believe that I've looked at the burs on the lido and they're real solid and then it also features a anti-static grinds jar or ground jar and the materials of this are aluminum, stainless steel and Bpa-free plastic. And the lidar weighs in at about 1096 grams so it's not too heavy, but it's also heavy enough that it feels good in the hand and it doesn't slide everywhere when you're grinding with it. you may have seen that when in my intro

 The knob is rubberized so it's really easy to grab and not slip around when you're using it. Large bean hopper which that's true. this is a very large bean hopper for a manual grinder, actually dual bronze axle bearings, stepless adjustment, unbreakable steel conic burr. I believe that I've looked at the burs on the lido and they're real solid and then it also features a anti-static grinds jar or ground jar and the materials of this are aluminum, stainless steel and Bpa-free plastic

Lido ET Review - Hand Coffee Grinder primarily designed for Espresso

I've used the Lido E every day over the last months, and it works splendidly. The large burr set makes short work of my beans for espresso, and grind consistency is outstanding. This is a quality product, built to last, and I feel it was worth the price. The extra touches, such as the dosing funnel which screws onto the coffee jar, and the base for use and storage on the kitchen counter, show the thoughtful design involved

Excellent hand grinder

 Moving down, we've got this silicone cap and this cap. Pretty straightforward. Take this off and then you'll add your coffee beans directly through the top into the hopper right here. And there is one cool thing about this cap

 Speaking of the burs, which of course, are incredibly important to be able to get a good grind. You've got 48 millimeters Swiss-made conical steel bars inside of the lead O3o, so that's important because you're going to get a lot of grind coverage. It's gonna make it easier to be able to grind coffee because they're stainless steel and Swiss made and that's gonna mean you don't have to worry about potentially breaking or cracking one or then wearing down things along those lines. Very important to be able to get a really good coffee grind

 It is sort of a dark plastic, but it's not so dark that you can't see how many coffee beans you have added into it and that's good. But this does measure about seventy grams so you can about 70 grams of coffee into the hopper. That's pretty decent because that's generally about what you're going to need, even for some very large French presses, so that's super useful. You can add a lot of beans here and grind a lot of coffee in the center of the hopper

 Take this off and then you'll add your coffee beans directly through the top into the hopper right here. And there is one cool thing about this cap. if you do not close the handle over it, it's gonna come out real easily. So if you were traveling with the Lito 3 and let's say you put coffee beans into the hopper, you would want to make sure that you close the handle over that silicon cap and then it'll keep everything sealed up tight and the cap won't fall out

 The overall design is really awesome. It feels great and I cannot stress again how easy it is to grind. That's super cool. So there you have it
