I think that the filter really was defective, because I can't imagine that is how a carbon filter must smell. Others have complained about nasty smells coming from their carbon filters in other units, but I could never live with it if that was normal. I'm sure it was just a bad filter. Anyway, the unit itself worked really well, but without knowing if the filter was at fault or not I can't give it 5 stars

As for function, I haven’t had the product long enough to determine whether or not it works properly. I do like the auto mode, especially when I am cooking. It helps clean the air of fumes from the gas stove and general food particles. The sound of the high speed fan is not too bad, very similar to the hum of a standard fan

I'll start with the good stuff: I did a bit of research into what air purifier units were recommended by sites that aimed to help those suffering from mold issues (me) and allergy problems. I felt I could trust recommendations by websites that didn't sell air purifiers, only had feedback and input from experts and users as to which ones did a good job. Well, Austin Air came up again and again as a good manufacturer, and I thought this unit was the right fit for what I needed. They do make this same item, the Healthmate, in 2 smaller sizes for less money

The big benefit is that I scheduled the purifier to run on Medium when I'm not in the room (which happens to be my office), and then turn back to Auto before I return. When I get back to my office the air smells and feels noticeably better than the rest of the house. Plus being able to tell alexa to turn up the purifier just seems cool. It will be more useful when I stick a second one of these in my daughters room and I can turn it to low for white noise without having to enter the room

It makes a tremedous amount of noise. If that level was any indication of its ability to do the job, I'd have the cleanest air in the neighborhood. Definitely not worth the price.

BUT-it is loud and after I changed the filter the first time, it developed a chronic rattle as well. Now the filter has to be changed monthly, which gets expensive. I wouldn't mind the expense so much if it didn't rattle constantly.

This is an expensive item but when you suffer from asthma you really need something that truly gets to the nitty gritty. I do question the craftsmanship. When we received this and unpacked it we noticed that we heard something rolling around in it. My husband then proceeded to unscrew the top to see what it was

Yes, we do have 2 dogs but they are not allowed in the bedroom due to my allergies. I honestly didn't have high hopes for the smaller unit but after a couple days of it purifying the bedroom air, I noticed a huge difference. I began waking up with clear sinuses and the room smelled "different". Not a bad smell but maybe just NO smell? Anyhow, after giving the little Blue a good 30 days to prove itself, I knew I needed a larger one for our living room

I bought this because I was moving into a nice basement apartment and figured it would be good to get any potentially harmful particles out of the air. I had been looking for one that would cover the square footage that I have and this one was one of the few that could. I wasn't a fan of the price, but I was under the gun and a couple auctions on eBay didn't work out. I haven't had any issues since using this machine

Having to replace the filters, even at a pro-rated discount is too costly. I ended up spending another $250 for 2 new filters after less than a year. Do not be fooled by the 5 year filter claim. It is false advertising as far as I am concerned

That means if it’s in a child’s room and child knocks something into it, it could dent or damage the filter itself resulting in the need for a replacement. - Without constantly referring to the manual it’s difficult to know what setting it’s on. This can be rather problematic if a child continues to cycle through the settings. Would I recommend it to a friend: Yes

level two or three, just know your really washing the air! consideralbly less dust in the in our 1000 sq ft loft.

I did test it out on a smoky day and it did detect poor air quality and upped the fan. Within 30 minutes it cleared out the air. Yes, these purifiers DO make a notable difference. They are not a gimmick

Easy to vac dust from pre-filter from outside lower section. Good size. Well worth money spent Does what it says it can do plus! Made a big difference in the house. Made in USA

Works as advertised. Easy to use. Excellent filter. A little noisy only on the highest setting but still manageable
