The 4i4 simply cannot manage to pull decent signal from a dynamic mic without it. That means you'll be spending an additional $200+ to achieve what this thing was supposed to do right out of the box. I am returning mine, because if I'm stuck spending $400 or more there are plenty of more robust options.

I have been looking for quite a while online and really haven't found anything in the general price range, or relatively higher priced that has a comparably better pre-amp than the M2(I'm talking even upwards of $500). There's the always compared SSL2 which seems to have a similar powered preamp but lacking in my opinion, and the Audient ID14 which, similarly seems lacking to me. I checked into the ID22 but the differences in Pre-amp given doesn't seem to justify a $300 difference.

The unit is sturdy and doesn't feel cheap. Latency: absolutely terrible, running a i7 and at the minimal latency setting there were awful pops and clicks making my focusrite look like a 1000 dollar interface. The recommended latency setting almost felt like a full second before sound was processed in my daw. Price: others have said that this is the "best" before you start getting into higher priced interfaces

Is it worth the purchase? For the price, yeah it's a decide device. I do wish I would have gotten the Presonus as it has midi in, but I think if you don't have a need for midi this is a solid device that should last a while. ONE last issue. Latency
