 I watched a 2 hour movie on a flight yesterday (no wifi, no bluetooth, screen 80% bright), and those 2 hours took the C302 down to about 30% battery (from full). The stock video player misses audio on a lot of movies, and using the VLC app (android) is super buggy (frequently freezes and shuts down). It's increasingly disappointing to see the much-hyped Play Access is still nonexistent. I'm still loving the *idea* of what the C302 is supposed to be, but the execution is feeling more and more of a miss

 It's rare to use a Chrome OS laptop that genuinely feels fast, well-built, and worth more than the $300 asking price that most Chromebooks cost. But if all those companies are going to succeed at this, it can't be rare anymore, it has to be standard.

The C302 does a better job at nailing most of the physical aspects of a good laptop than other devices you'll find in this price range. It's got a thin aluminum body (just over half an inch thick), and weighs just over two and a half pounds.

Google, for its part, is working feverishly to make the Android app on Chrome OS viable (they're not ready yet). Asus, for its part, produced the excellent machine I'm reviewing right now.  The wide touchpad is also responsive and supports multitouch commands, but it's not as good as the touchpad gestures on my MacBook. To control the keyboard backlighting, you simply press the Alt key and the brightness control keys at the top of the keyboard that normally control the screen.  Less expensive Chromebooks, like the Acer Chromebook R 13 and the Lenovo ThinkPad 13 Chromebook, don't even have backlighting, so it's a nice addition.Sexy screenThe Chromebook Flip C302CA's screen quality is above average, especially when compared with similarly priced Windows 10 laptops

USED Laptop under $200 (USA)

 Not sure if that's specifically something I'll have to look for or if all modern computers will be up to the task. I'm in the US, looking for something <1K.

My Lenovo Thinkpad from nearly a decade ago hasn't been working too well for me lately, sometimes struggling with video calls and buffering videos. Also, it's graphics card isn't good enough to run a few games I'd like to play (Civ 6, Ori & the Blind Forest, Journey). Not sure if that's specifically something I'll have to look for or if all modern computers will be up to the task. I'm in the US, looking for something <1K

I bought this laptop because my old ASUS, god bless it, was getting slow and heavy, and as a student I needed something relatively light that I could do a lot of typing on (so, not a tablet). The Thinkpads are pretty legendary with hardware nerds, and for good reason - they're ugly but very rugged, and the keyboard design is incredible. This model and the T440 might be the last of their kind, which is a shame. I've had this for about a week and a half and so far, it's a solid machine

 That fixed the issue for me. It's also helpful to remove all the bloatware, especially Lenovo's upgrade utility - the native Windows updater should be doing that stuff for you.  It's a fast machine, and pretty powerful - I remember hating Intel integrated graphic chipsets as a kid because they were very poor performers, but the 4000 edition they use now is fairly high-end - you can play Skyrim at low settings with no issues, and probably make it a little prettier and still maintain your framerate (especially with a RAM upgrade). So it's a very versatile machine, and aside from that momentary panic from WLAN confusion, I'm happy with it so far
