It has a nice beefy sound, but still has that bounce that makes it great for dance tracks.  The sequencer is one of its high points, as well as the fact that it has midi in/out, audio in/ out, and  can run off of batteries (making it one of the best portable synths out there).

If you're a bass player, it's E to E key bed range is very appreciated, and the slim keys are actually pretty nice.  (Those are not mini keys as these keys are the normal length, just skinnier)

 The micro freak nails, the interface to the t, striking a great balance between ease of use and complexity, hands-on control and a clever layout on the available front panel real estate programming new sounds is easy and it encourages experimentation and it's just plain good old fun. The mod matrix makes broughting a breeze, and newcomers to synthesizers will also benefit from it that they can see how their favorite presets are set up, and you can just start taking notes from them when you start diving in. So it's basically like a little tutorial in the box. It'S also great for live performance as you get easy access to its most important parameters, as well as the benefit from the eccentric little keyboard and its polyphonic aftertouch number three immutable instrument as that for a magic trick

Sonic LAB - Arturia MicroFreak Hybrid Synthesizer Review

 So, after watching tons of Youtube videos, I decided on the Arturia Microfreak...and I'm glad I did! It has a LOT of sound design potential, and using the Mod Matrix is a joy

 in fact, the entire unit has a much cheaper feel than the brute series. I would have paid another $100 to have it with a higher build quality.  Now on to the good: the sounds are incredible. So much better than the Korg mini/monologue

Next to it you've got rate, depth and tone controls for each of the algorithms followed by the variation knob itself which gives you between 1 and 11 so 1 and 11 different types over here which take you from different sort of algorithms from lead, pads, strings, bass, organ sounds, you know, tons and tons of stuff. The dry sound can be mixed with other effects because it has its own effects loop and today I've got an OD200 connected to it. Another excellent BOSS pedal and there's reverb and delay coming from my XFX FM3 on the floor but there's a nice dry send

 Turn off the reverb and delay. Tweak the tones a little bit. That is cool fun. Another variation of the organ loop just because it's cool fun
