 Hey skiers, I'm Jeff from SkiEssentials.com. Welcome to our 2023 Ski Test. Today we're

 going to talk about the Armada ARV 106. This is certainly a ski that I really enjoy skiing.

 Free ride, twin tip, really good in the powder, good as an all-mountain ski as well. A little

 wider than what some people would think of as an all-mountain ski, but there's certainly

 people out there that ski these every day of the week. Super, super fun. They're designed

 as kind of a freestyle soft snow ski. Armada is known for their twin tip skis and the ARV

 106 is probably one of their most popular models. When it comes to construction and

 shape, pretty straightforward in this ski. We get a poplar and ash wood core, no metal

 additives, there's no carbon in here or anything. We always like skis like this because it's

 a good example of just how good a ski can be with a simple wood core. Not a stiff flex

 pattern by any means, but nice supportive flex pattern. There's certainly softer skis

 on the market, which comes through in its performance too. You can trust it. Probably

 shouldn't put it back just yet. Tip and tail rocker is a pretty important element of this

 ski. Pretty long rocker up here in the tip. Not as long as some, but still a good amount

 of rocker and actually a good amount of splay too, the way it rises off the snow. Same thing

 in the tail. We almost get equal amounts of tip and tail rocker, which makes sense because

 this is more of a centered all-mount or more of a centered twin tip shape. We have a freestyle

 recommended mount point that I don't think is quite true center, but it's pretty darn

 close. Another element of these skis that's really cool is this kind of partial metal

 edge and then how it transitions into what our modder calls smirtech. Maybe we'll play

 this game. It's always questionable how that's going to work, but basically the tips and

 tails of the base of the ski are kind of beveled. It's a little bit like our Atomics Horizon

 Tech in that sense. Just increasing surface area in the tip as well as kind of reducing

 the amount of pressure to the ski. What that does to performance is it makes the ski a

 little looser, a little easier to release the tail edge, easier to do nose butters,

 kind of slash turns, stuff like that. You can see all the camber underfoot here and

 it's actually pretty springy camber too. You get a nice mix of energy and pop and snap

 out of that kind of flex pattern and camber, but then a really loose feel and soft snow

 from those tips and tails. Also really comes in handy if you happen to take this ski in

 the park. It's a little wide for the park. They have the ARV 96 too, which I would say

 or at least I'm of the opinion that if you're spending a lot of time in the terrain park,

 you might be better off with that narrower ski if that's kind of your focus or your

 focus for this pair of skis. Might be better to go narrower, but like I also said, there's

 plenty of people that will take this into the park. More and more park skiers are using

 wider skis, so that tip and tail feel, that shaping and that smear tech helps in the park

 too if you want to do a butter takeoff or stuff like that. It also helps on landings.

 It's a little less catchy if you don't land quite perfectly. Super fun ski. It also kind

 of increases float like I was saying. It decreases the pressure towards the ski from the snow

 surface. That's effectively increasing float. Kind of works like a displacement haul of
