AMD Ryzen 5 5600G Review

AMD has been the hardware to get in the last four years. They have managed to bring a good performance and price mix to the market while maintaining one socket for that entire period. Hence, good value, good performance and good up-gradable path.

The Intel I5 11400 with B560 motherboard is probably a better value at the moment but consumes a little more power and does not offer much in the way of upgrade path. Keep in mind that any Intel "k" series processor does not have integrated graphics.

Intel has been forced to push clock speeds on their processors in order to maintain performance parity with AMD and they often do better with single thread and gaming. However, they continue a practice that requires a new motherboard every one or two releases.

Your decisions will have to be based on price and availability. An integrated graphics option is not a bad idea if you cannot  get any graphics card at a reasonable price.

I am working on building a new rig to  run Linux on With dedicated GPUs being either impossible to find or  ridiculously expensive right now I am planning on building with  integrated graphics and then adding a GPU once they return to normal  availability. My computer gets used for moderate  gaming, video  steaming, coding, and running Foundry VTT in my web browser along with  Zoom.

The  two CPUs I have been looking at are the AMD ryzen 5 3400g and the Intel  i7 9700k. Keeping in mind that I intend to add a GPU at a later date  what would people recommend? I am open to other suggestions as well,  just has to have integrated graphics for the time being.

Need Hardware Opinions for New Rig

 This will be more than enough for these six cores and 12 threads, even if we want to do some overclocking, which we will in this video. Now, if you wanted to get out cheaper, you could always pick up a rosewell case with an included 400 watt power supply for around 60 dollars and that's actually going to bring the price way down. But i already had one of these dark flash dlm 22 cases laying around so i figured i'd, go ahead and use it. These are some of my favorite and i think it's going to look pretty decent with that tempered glass and the rgb fans

 I did go into the bios and i overclocked this to 4.5 gigahertz on all six cores. Remember the base boost clock on this is 4.4, so we're over that boost right now on all six cores uh for memory we have 16 gigabytes of ddr4 running at 4, 400 megahertz and the built-in radeon 7 graphics and again a little bit of an overclock here

 I chose to use in this build all links for everything i'm using are going to be in the description. I'Ll also leave links for an alternate build down below this isn't going to be a full build video. I just kind of want to get this thing together, but if you're interested in seeing a very similar build go together, i will leave a link to the original video i created with the 4650g, build it's a very good performer and basically we're using the same parts. Minus this faster ram and the case, but i kind of go over everything going together in that video, so yeah

 As for the motherboard used in this build, i went with the asus b550 primed. This is actually a decent little motherboard and right out of the box. It will support these 5000 series apus. We also have a one terabyte inlin, nvme ssd and when it comes to ram and these apus the faster the better

NO GPU NEEDED Gaming PC! The Ryzen 5600G Is Amazing!

I was a little weirded out by that, but the seller came through and the chip is legit and arrived brand new in box with stock cooler, instructions, and foil badge sticker.  You should pair this APU with a good mobo and memory. I chose the MSI B550 MPG Gamer Edge WiFi, and TeamGroup DDR4 3600. The mobo will be critical in determining your possible upgrade paths, and the memory is used by the AMD APUs to help with the graphics

 The old PC had an nVidia 1060 but I'd had good luck with its predecessor when I'd run for five years with an AMD A10 APU chip that played games sufficiently well and absolutely manhandled Windows and office apps. But as luck would have it, the 5700G had been dropping in price during my research phase, and right when I went to buy, the price spiked up. Thanks a lot, irrational market!  Pondering what to do, I read some comparisons of the 1700X to the 5600G, and the 5600G fared ok. It was close in overall performance and much more efficient and used less power

 The only ones I've applied since getting this PC build are the motherboard BIOS (MSI B550 MPG Gamer Edge WiFi, now currently at BIOS 7C91v1B), various motherboard drivers for the WiFi and Bluetooth, and the MSI Center software so I can easily reference the mobo BIOS and driver versions from Windows. If I get past two weeks without the issue returning then I can say those AMD drivers were likely related, which is unfortunate, if those drivers also bring better performance. But the best feature is stability, so I'll stick with this for now. Also put the star rating to four stars - this is a great performing chip, but that reboot thing is a total bummer when it happens

Very nice chip, but be careful

 Along with a 32GB ram kit + finally a decent fan hub by Cooler Master. The hard part was actually getting all the cables tidy and neat. I think it worked really well. Also switched my rug to a much more dust resistant one as well as custom walnut wooden raiser

Since joining this sub I got triggered by changing and upgrading my 'workstation' pc (aimed at graphic design). I replaced the Ryzen 5 1600 for a new Ryzen 5 5600G, the SFX-L power supply made way for the Corsair SF600 (with braided cables). The stock CPU cooler has been substituted by the Noctua NH-U9S. All the fans I had have been replaced by Noctua's (2x 120 Chromax on the bottom, 2x 120 Chromax Slim on the top

As for the CPU cooler I was running the original AMD Wraith Stealth cooler which came along with my Ryzen 5 1600. Originally I was using 2x Enermax T.B.Silence UCTB12 fans in the bottom as well as 2x Arctic P12 Slim fans on the top

 The stock CPU cooler has been substituted by the Noctua NH-U9S. All the fans I had have been replaced by Noctua's (2x 120 Chromax on the bottom, 2x 120 Chromax Slim on the top. Along with a 32GB ram kit + finally a decent fan hub by Cooler Master. The hard part was actually getting all the cables tidy and neat

As I was hoping, this case runs much cooler than the other B1 models. Plenty of reviews online talk about CPU temps spiking up to the thermal limit of 95°C for the 5600G, for instance, and even the machine shutting down due to temps. Running benchmarks on this machine, though, temps topped out at 77°C in my stress test (20 minutes of constant full load after having ran some smaller stress tests that had already warmed up the machine). This was before adding the duct kit, so presumably it'd be a few degrees cooler now

 I don't think i've seen it at or near 80c with anything but Prime95 very small fft.
