I wanted a compact umbrella while carrying things from/to my house. At 38 inches, the canopy is sized and weighted for protection without being cumbersome. My headline says "semi-automatic" because the button does not fully reverse the opening action. Initially, the button will extend the shaft and expand the canopy

I was looking for a mid-size umbrella that wouldn't take up too much space and would be handy. It also had to be large enough to keep me dry in most rain storms. This one fits that description at a great price. I like the spring loaded feature which means you can open it easily with one hand

When I got it, I was pleasantly surprised at it's size. It was compact but wasn't too small. Now, with that being said, this is not a large umbrella. If it was raining hard, it wouldn't have protected me much

I've had this umbrella for just over 3 years at the time of this review, which is far longer than any other umbrella I've owned. It's still in great shape -- just some nicks in the handle which I think make it look well worn. The size of the canopy is just right. Big enough to comfortably keep you dry but not awkwardly large

Easy to open not heavy,So I can take it with me always cause you never know when you're going to need it.

This umbrella is easy to open and close, that was important to me since I have issues in my hands with strength! It gives great coverage too!

Best Feature: May be silly, but my favorite thing about this umbrella so far is that the umbrella is easy to wrap up into a compact size and fits perfectly back in the sleeve after use. Con: In my opinion, the curved handle makes holding it more difficult than a normal handle. That's the only thing I prefer about my old Tote umbrella over this Amazon Basic Umbrella. Overall, good umbrella for the price

I love being able to hook it on my bag strap and walk with it handsfree or put it in the handle of a briefcase. Whenever I get married, this will probably be part of a groomsman gift I like these so much.

The only problem with this product is it weight. Most portable umbrellas are light but not this one. Good price, great color, keeps me dry. Wish it was lighter to carry

I bought the black umbrella because the Totes brand usually holds up well and this umbrella has the u-shaped handle that I prefer. I am replacing a Jones New York umbrella which has served me well for a long time but an arm on the metal frame snapped and cannot be repaired. This Totes umbrella is a significantly larger - and a bit heavier - than my previous one although not as big as a golf umbrella. I debated on returning it but it seems well made so I decided to keep it

Since the closing isn't automatic and you have to anchor it manually, there has been times that I tried to just open the umbrella back to use again going back outside, but was unable to do so until I closed it completely and locked it down, then pushed the button to automatically snap it open again. It requires that snap of the button release to lock in the open position to be useful in the rain. It is a nice size for storing next to the drivers seat between the door and the seat.

Today however, it no longer latches shut. I will pull it closed and it immediately flies back open, I have to hold it shut and latch the velcro strap to keep it from opening. It's past the return window so I can't exchange it, other than that it's a great umbrella.

I've had this for a little over a year, and it works well enough with rain and wind. My biggest complaint is that the velcro has basically stopped working to hold it closed. That's not a big deal except that I carry it in my bag, and the velcro often comes loose and lets the umbrella fabric spread out inside the bag. Better-quality velcro or another half-inch of it would have helped a lot

Feels sturdy and I love the feel of the handle (proper materials). So far so good over August and September. hope it survives heavier storms and the winter.

We both really appreciated how well this umbrella performed! It kept both of us nice and dry and at the same time while we literally seen other umbrella's flip inside out from the wind this umbrella took the beating. We opened and closed this umbrella several dozen times over the course of a week and it never failed us once. Another nice feature is how light weight and portable it is, it folds back up easily and tucks into a small purse or bag with no problem. I heard complaints that this was a Bear to get back in it's case, and it is, but we never had to use the case again after we took it out, it really didn't give it much smaller of a profile, so we just chucked the bag

I bought this umbrella to replace a broken, VERY similar umbrella by London Fog. THIS umbrella by Tote beats anything I've ever seen in an umbrella: solid wood shaft, rather than rolled thin-wall steel, an extra array of support braces reinforcing the canopy ribs, and a very efficient (you'd swear the mechanism was built in Germany) deployment (gold trimmed) deployment button. Good price, too.

I had to put a little effort in getting it back down. The spring is that strong, hopefully it holds up through use.

The reason I didn't give this umbrella 5/5: Firstly, the "wooden" handle seems to be a laminate product or a very cheap looking wood on close inspection. Secondly, the black umbrella was missing one of the two nails that secure the TOTES logo to the handle. Nothing major, but to get a 5/5 rating it would need to have all the little things covered. I'm sure this umbrella will see plenty of use this winter, so if my review changes I'll update it accordingly
