 The heel is also nice and padded, fairly similar to the 2.5 although it may be like a millimeter or two higher. I managed to slip my feet in and get a heel lock immediately. I didn't need to use the runner's knot

 I'm a little disappointed about the breathability because I didn't feel like it was. That's pretty what 61.5 was on my first run. My feet did heat up quite a bit, and I think it's because the upper is slightly thicker

 So I'm a little bit biased, but it is because of my feet. I've always liked a fairly minimal Escalante, not just for running, but also to strengthen my feet. Like many runners, I'm a severe overpronator and I always feel the Escalante does a good job at not supporting that, but actually making my feet stronger supporting themselves. In both the 2 and the 2

ALTRA Escalante 3 First Impressions | How does it compare to the Escalante 2.5?

. So if you don't know what size to get, some people like going half a size down for the Escalante, others will just go for the regular running shoe size. They're not as stretchy as the 2.5 so it's always a little bit fidgety getting the shoes on, but I really like the lacing system, so as soon as I have my feet inside, the upper really wraps nicely around them

 so basically that just means they can spread apart in the front of the shoe rather than having them be squashed together as you run. So it is going to be a comfortable shoe, right? So let's talk about the way this shoe feels. So I enjoy this shoe. I think it's very comfortable

 So I am seeing a little bit of wear. I don't think you guys will be able to see that on camera, but ultimately I am having a little bit of wear there so I don't know what that means for the shoe, right? I probably will try to get at least 300 miles out of the shoe, which I don't really feel is that much. I know for my last Escalante got about 250 out of it and I felt like the midsole broke down and I had a lot of issues. But ultimately you know I do feel that I should be able to get probably 300 miles out of this

 I actually feel that the cushioning is better than the 2.5 So you take a look at this shoe, it is gonna have the ego midsole for some reason. Even though it's the same stack height as the prior edition, this model feels more plush as I'm running, So I do feel like I'm getting a little bit more cushion, which I'm not necessarily sure where that has come from. maybe that has to do something with the Eagle midsole, but ultimately it does feel a little bit more plush as I'm running

 and the reason why I say that is I am getting that wear there. but the rest of the outsole is holding up nicely. So you know, maybe I get 325 350 out of the shoe. But I am seeing a little bit of a breakdown in the shoe

I purchased these for running and have put about 20-30 miles on them. They're comfortable under and around the foot. Good support, nice wide toe box. Good laces and upper

 After four miles run with low cut socks, my skin was rubbed raw. Another half mile I probably would have been bleeding. Such a stupid design decision. What am I supposed to do with these? Most of my running socks are cut below the tongue

Avoid. Tongue digs into skin.

  That said, this shoe is light, and exactly the fit I have come to expect from an Altra shoe.   If you love Altras, you will have a hard time finding fault in the weight and fit of this shoe.  I just wish that made the tongue more of a mesh material.

Unexplainable stiff tongue

 I love the wide toe box on these and they are comfortable, but they are falling apart. The upper is separating from the sole in 3 places (2 places on 1 shoe and 1 on the other), the mesh is significantly fraying on both shoes, and there are parts of the sole that are coming apart in the front and back of both shoes. To look at these shoes you would think I’ve worn them 12 hours a day on tough trails for over a year. I would not purchase these shoes again

Comfortable but poorly made

Saucony's Triumph 19 is great, too, though still 8mm drop and a bit heavier. If you're comfortable with zero drop, Altra's Torin 5 is a great cushion-to-weight ratio long run cruiser, but make sure you size up as they run a bit short.

I’m 59. 160lb and run around 30 miles per week regularly and 40 when I’m training for something.  My half marathon time around 2 hours.  I usually do low heart rate training around 6-6:30 min km .   I like lightest shoes possible with low drop if possible.  I use all of the endorphin line but the shift don’t really work for me beyond 10 miles.  I have Skechers Max Road 4+ that I use for long runs (over 10 miles) and I am trying to go beyond the 13 miles that is my typical long run to get to something nearer 20 with a goal of doing marathon and maybe beyond starting 2022.  The Skechers are okay but I’m looking for better -  any recommendations ?  This is for training not race purposes.

Really need long slow run shoe advice

 The top of the tongue isn’t padded.  It’s quite sharp, and it cut into my skin (literally) after a few miles.  Kind of a weird design oversight.  Probably not a problem if you run in taller socks, but I prefer the short ones

 I have two pairs of trail running shoes a pair of hiking boots and then these. They are extremely light and comfortable. If you are looking for a pair of zero drop running shoes with a wide tow box, these should be your go-to. They probably wont last as long as some other brands just due to the materials, but they are the perfect value at price vs quality

 I have moved on from other brands like Brooks for the same reason. Gave Altra a chance, but not again. Back to Hoka.

Same experience as other reviewers here, they are not a durable shoe for the cost. I bought a pair of Torin 5's, two days later, the tread started separating from the sole of the shoe. That should have been my warning sign. I was able to take those back to FleetFeet to exchange

 Received a new pair, just over a month later, same issue, Outside 30 day exchange from FleetFeet, so I sent an email to the Warranty group, no response. I get that shoes will wear down, but at the cost of $150 a pair, I expected more. I have moved on from other brands like Brooks for the same reason. Gave Altra a chance, but not again
