The AW2721D is a 240 Hz 1440p monitor with an IPS display. This monitor is awesome for pretty much everything including gaming and creating content.

 The downsides? Well, it's expensive and extremely heavy.

 Well, we see whether picking one up is worth it, both physically and financially of course.

 Dell provided the monitor for the purpose of this review, but they don't get any input on this video's production.

 Well, I couldn't have put it any better. We're looking at a 240Hz IPS display with a 1440p resolution.

 This were extremely impressive specs back when Trout got his sample, but even a few months later, there are only a handful of monitors that can keep up with that.

 Now, it's not surprising that a monitor like this doesn't come cheap.

 At the time of making this video, it costs around $800 US, which of course might change in the future or depending on your region.

 In terms of price per pound, this definitely isn't a bad deal, because this thing is insanely heavy.

 By all means, this is not a monitor you'd want to carry to events or take to your friends.

 Also, its stand is pretty large and takes up a good amount of space on your desk.

 However, this big and heavy stand allows the display itself to almost overhang towards the front.

 Despite the large footprint, this allows us to get the screen pretty close without the stand getting in the way of the mouse or keyboard.

 When I first saw the big stand, I thought getting good ergonomics would be a nightmare, but actually the opposite is true as long as your desk is deep enough.

 In terms of adjustability, it leaves nothing to be desired.

 Height can be adjusted from extremely low to very high and tilt also provides a ton of adjustment range.

 The display can also be swiveled or rotated into portrait orientation for things like coding or reading documents.

 My only gripe is that there's no marking for the center position.

 The pivot adjustment feels a bit mushy, so getting it back to a horizontal position takes some effort.

 Yes, I'm totally nitpicking here, but let's not forget that this is a pretty expensive monitor.

 Therefore, I'm also a bit disappointed that it doesn't have integrated speakers.

 At least it has a headphone jack that's conveniently placed and not hidden on the backside of the monitor.

 The same is true for two ports of the integrated USB 3.0 hub, so this actually is a useful feature.

 Depending on your point of view, RGB is another more or less useful feature.

 It's easily customizable even through the OSD menu without needing to install additional software.

 And most importantly, you can turn everything off.

 A much more useful feature is the ambient light sensor.

 It's somewhat buried in the OSD menu, but this uses a little sensor on top of the monitor

 to constantly measure the ambient light and adjust the brightness accordingly.

 Pretty much like a smartphone does it as well.

 The brightness slider can now be used to give the sensor a brightness tendency.

 Turning this all the way up, for instance, will tell the monitor that you rather like your monitor on the bright side

 and the sensor will adjust the brightness accordingly.

 This is a great little feature which almost makes manually changing the brightness throughout the day unnecessary.

 Now, the brightness adjustment range itself is very impressive.

 On the high end, the Alienware reaches 500 nits, which is exceptionally bright.
