Simplicity brand. Best vacuums (I have an uptight snd a small portable) I have ever had. Not sold in big box or department  stores, usually at vacuum cleaner shops a d online. Check them out!

Hi friends! I am moving into my first home and wanted to upgrade to a nice vacuum. 

A little bit about the space… I am moving into a 2000 square foot single story home. There will be no carpet other than area rugs. I have 2 short haired dogs that don’t shed much and a cat that does shed a moderate amount. 

I was looking at the dyson animal 2 and the dyson v11 animal. BUT, I have heard really mixed reviews on dyson in general. I also have the dyson air wrap and sometimes I feel it’s very cheaply made for the price tag. 

Does anyone have any recommendations? I’m very flexible but ideally want something light and cordless would be awesome but not required. I also would like to stay around 500 or below but I do have some wiggle room for the right one! I did do some internet searches but would love some reviews from real people! Thanks 😊

Vacuum recommendations

This is why I generally recommend that people try out a canister in the store before they buy. That said, I've never found them too bad as long as you don't try to use them like an upright. I actually found an older Simplicity canister at the thrift shop that I've been using as my main vacuum for the past couple months and haven't had much trouble with (though I'm still an upright guy all the way).

Years ago I read a great ama on this website by a vacuum repairman. They talked highly about canister vacuums and spoke about advantages they had over upright vacuums. No filters to purchase, better on hard floors so I purchased a simplicity canister vacuum and I've regretted it. Yes I haven't had to purchase any filters but I have spent more money buying vacuum bags than I ever would have on filters. The most frustrating part about the canister though is that it's hard to focus on what you're vacuuming in front of you and also pay attention to the vacuum behind you. It's always slamming into furniture walls and the back of my ankles. Anybody thinking about purchasing a canister just remember it will run into the back of your ankles and bang into your furniture possibly damaging it. Yes it may be better on hard floors but it's only marginally better not enough to offset the negative.

My experience with canister vacuums

It’s powerful but mine overheats after about 3 minutes of use and turns off. I then have to wait about 30 minutes before trying to use it again. Maybe mines defective but I wouldn’t waste your money on this thing.

I didn’t give it 5 stars because of the vacuum head. The suction is great but the vacuum head needs to be off the ground more. It scratches your hardwood floors as you are trying to vacuum it. You can not maneuver it well even if you allow clearance by opening the top of the handle to allow the air to suck from the top and if you increase the height at the vacuum head

 I will warn everyone out there it is not for rugs at all but I have my uprights for that.

 This vacuum is light has a really nice microfiber pad on the hardwood floor attachment. No roller brush to get all the hair stuck and I prefer the bag because I don't get dust everywhere or have to reach in and pull out the hair when I empty it.
