If you're shopping at a mid-range price point, the best HEPA vacuum for allergies we've tested is the Airsign HEPA Vacuum. It doesn't have the grab-and-go convenience of the Roborock H7, but it is cheaper and better-suited for longer clean-ups due to its corded design. It has an onboard HEPA filter with charcoal filtration, helping to seal in fine allergens and minimize odor, and uses biodegradable dirtbags with a built-in seal cover. It's partially made from recycled materials, which is great if you're looking for a more environmentally-conscious vacuum. It feels decently well-built for the most part and has a simple design that's easy to maintain. The canister body is pretty compact, enabling you to store it in small closets without too much effort.

Performance on most surfaces is good, even with a basic straight suction floorhead.  I was able to follow the instructions for putting it together. Overall it seems intuitive to use and has excellent suction, especially on rugs and carpet. The switch for hardwood, carpet and power on the handle work as intended but seem flimsy. It’s easy to hit the carpet setting on hardwood

 The dust bin was messy and hard to empty. I looked for a vacuum for quite a while and really wanted a cordless stick. It seemed that there were issues with them, including short battery times and questionable suction power. I then looked at various bagged and bagless uprights and bagged canisters

 We just got it, the second one, identical, i took a brush and used it with old vacuum, it works awesome so far! So a[ardently, brash alone was a problem, we should start from replacing it, instead of a handle. We used the first one for one year in total, even though with constant troubles, but it is so cheap, that i thought to give it another chance, maybe the other one will last longer, if not- i will look for something else, because buying it once a year will be costly overtime. Update: I noticed that the first vacuum (exactly identical 200 series Kenmore) had telescopic expandable pipe, this new one, ordered in 2019, does not, and it is so short that with my height on 5’1” I can not use it! It’s too inconvenient. The other issue with new vacuum: bare floor attachment has too thin brush, which is too soft, like it is not even there, so entire brush just sucked to floor, that you can’t even move it around! Same about upholstery brush -too flimsy

 We started having problems after two months. We have used it very moderately: I clean one tiny (tile floor) apartment 360 sf with one 4’x5’ rug, about twice a week; and once in two months i clean about 500sf of low carpet in the covered lanai. That's it! First, the hose broke so we had to duck tape it, then there appeared a major problem with brush: it stoped self propelling. Then soon it started working intermittently

 So I took the wiring harness apart, cut the ribbon, notched it and abraded the end to expose the metal connections. I reinserted it into the clip and secured it with copious amounts of tape, enough to fortify the inevitable bend that occurs. Put it back together and what do I get? VOILA! A vacuum again! Should this have happened? No. In the amount of time I have owned this unit, they should have at least tested a unit twice as long (I do for my products) but here’s a TIP to prevent this problem for anybody considering this unit

 Out of curiosity, considering the old one is shot, I took apart the wand and discovered the problem. It used to be that the power cord was on the outside of a tube that never extended or retracted. Now, the extendable wand has its wiring inside, in the form of a ribbon wire, that when repeatedly extended and retracted (as much as one can in the 4 months we have had it using it occasionally) the wire snaps at the one connection end. This is a serious design flaw

 This fix lasted 15 minutes, as shortly thereafter it stopped working altogether. I contacted Kenmore, and they’re sending a replacement vacuum ( in 7-10 days, coupled with the time it took to get an RMA we are talking 2 weeks) . Out of curiosity, considering the old one is shot, I took apart the wand and discovered the problem. It used to be that the power cord was on the outside of a tube that never extended or retracted

 DO NOT EXTEND AND RETRACT THE WAND OFTEN. Try to find a height that works and stick with it. Considering what I discovered inside the wand, it should be fine for decades if you don’t put it though a lot of movement.

Has a serious design flaw (bought 9/15/18) ***UPDATED 1/31/19***

I Include this as if you have the suction on LOW you might think the thing is broken The cleaner is provided with HEPA filters unlike some of the other filters which are available in the market.  I have a 10 year old Miele swivel upright vacuum, which I love (sadly, it'I believe they stop making them longer & replaced with a few worthless battery corded stick vacuums) and a Sebo Flexi swivel upright. My uprights have a swivel heads which makes moving them about from room to room a breeze, plus there's isn't a long hose to push while dragging the heavy canister behind you (that crashes into everything).

 If it's selling close to $500.00, definitely don't buy it. It just isn't build solid enough for that kind of money.

Kenmore Elite 21814 Pet Friendly CrossOver

 I have some floor attachments, brushes, and long-reach wands that fit other vacuums, but they won't work with this Kenmore because of it's design. I was able to fashion an adapter that gets around this problem, but there's some risk the adapter may damage the hose. Kenmore should make their vacuums to use standard attachments, so customers don't lose their investment in specialized attachments.  Third, the only attachment with a brush for effectively vacuuming bare floors is only 9 inches wide instead of the standard 14 inch width of most floor attachments

Disappointing Vacuum

  One caveat before I continue. You don't know me, but I am typically very even-tempered and few things make me angry. This vacuum is one of those few things. To the point where I'm writing a negative review, which I also rarely do

 It does a good job picking up dust and dirt from both. But  Cons: - The air filter cover pops off. There's a single sliding latch that is supposed to keep the cover on, but it pops off frequently when the vacuum is stood on end. The design would have been better off if Kenmore had put on two opposing latches to release the cover
