In Agricola (Latin for "farmer"), you're a farmer in a wooden shack with your spouse and little else. On a turn, you get to take only two actions, one for you and one for the spouse, from all the possibilities you'll find on a farm: collecting clay, wood or stone; building fences; and so on. You might think about having kids in order to get more work accomplished, but first you need to expand your house. And what are you going to feed all the little rug rats? Agricola is a turn based game. There are 14 game turns plus 6 harvest phases (after turn 4, 7, 9, 11, 13, and 14). Each player starts with two playing tokens (farmer and wife) and thus can take two actions per turn. There are multiple options, and while the game progresses, you'll have more and more: first thing in a turn, a new action card is flipped over. Problem: Each action can be taken just once per turn, so it's important to do some things with high preference. Each player also starts with a hand of 7 Occupation cards (of more than 160 total) and 7 Minor Improvement cards (of more than 140 total) that he may use during the game if they fit in his/her strategy. This amounts to countless strategies, some depending on your card hand. Sometimes it's a good choice to stay on course, sometimes you better react on what your opponents do.  I would never play Agricola cavern ax fees for Odin with people who were new to gaming. Those games are incredibly overwhelming and 2 billion pieces and overwhelming rules. This is not. This is not necessarily it's like

 Let'S take a look. There'S a board here placed in the middle of the table. This board has a puzzle piece and that's going to be used for a number of players, whether that be one two three or four, and so the game is going to take place over 14 rounds. You'Re going to move this piece here to keep track of the rounds at the beginning of each round you're and look at each space and put that many items on it that it shows so this one here shows to brick

 Like this is very difficult, so whoever manages to do this. The best throughout the game will end with the most points and will be the winner. So that's a gribbler, a real short overview. I know it's not my usual full rules, explanation of a game, but it's not really possible with this game, because there's so many different actions that vary each time there will be the same actions will appear in a different order

 This is going to continue with players taking actions flipping new cards and then when they get to the end of each Raptor in the end of each phase, harvesting until the end of the game and you'll see that these harvest phases accelerate at first, it's four rounds Until a harvest, then it's three, then two, then two, then two, then one and so more and more frequently you're going to have to feed your workers while trying to build up your farm in order to earn points scoring is going to be done at the end Of the game only and you're going to score points for several different things. If you have very few of something you're going to get negative points and the more you have of each thing, you're going to get more points, fields are going to be areas that are plowed on your board and then bar. This would be a bad example because they could only build wooden rooms, but to show an example, they would expand their house as such and basically just to try and build up their farm by gathering resources and building more cards at the end of a turn. Players are going to take all of their workers back and place them back onto the board after they've done so they're going to start the next round and again they would stock up the resources so they'd, add more wood and you'll see that these resources will build Up if no one takes them, they'd add another clay which now only has one, because it was taken previously another reed and some more food, and then they would flip the next card and so you'll see as the game goes on

 Now that we've looked at what each player will have individually, why don't we take a look at what's going to be done on the main action board? So this is the main action Cordova correctly you'll see here that there are several different boards that can be split apart and they're stored easily and then on them. There'S a series of cards, but the first two boards, the furthest left boards. I have some actions pre-printed on them, and players are going to be placing their their workers from their personal boards onto these actions. In order to take them, each action will only be available once per round, so once a player is placed on it that action can't be taken by any other player

That said, these are the games I've owned since purchasing them and the year I acquired them:

Its a ok game and interesting once you get into it, but the rules and instructions are very complicated to learn especially if you're trying to teach yourself (as opposed to playing with friends that have played it before). My husband and I are avid board gamers and we found it very confusing in the beginning. There are also lots of intricacies in taking your turn, taking "actions" etc which are hard to understand and/or keep straight. It's also not a quick playing game

**10. Through the Ages** - I understand why some people like Civ-builders and how this can scratch that itch. It's just never 'clicked' for me - there are several major things to keep in mind, it's possible to have particularly catastrophic slips, and everything ties together in such a way that it can be hard to catch up if things go poorly. This is definitely a case where the game caters to a particular niche, and I'm not in it

 However, just grabbing the 'starter kit' alone is awkward and doesn't show off many of the refinements made over time. Actually getting the full game requires a lot of investment, and not having everything can result in a notably inferior experience. As such, the 'overall' rating for it, while high, means it settles in the lower half of these reviews. 

**6: Arkham Horrow: The Card Game** - In general, I'd rate the game higher. Arkham Horror LCG has interesting deck-building options, relatively understandable mechanics, and a great thematic feel to it. However, a lot of that isn't due to Arkham Horror's core set on its own - it's due to Arkham Horror plus lots and lots of expansions, many of which are better or worse depending on the specific one. If I could recommend one or two sets for play, this would be higher

**7. Anachrony**: This is a worker placement with interesting theming, but it has a fair amount of fiddliness to it and can take a while to learn due to the number of interactions it has. It's solid, but it's hard to make it hit my gaming table.

But my order for those would be:

1 - **Patchwork** - my favourite game of all time so it's an easy #1! I think **Patchwork** is unimprovable, it is a wonderful perfect information abstract game with a high skill ceiling. It creates the most exciting moments and difficult decisions. An absolute gem of a game.

2 - **Azul** - I'm a huge fan of open drafting mechanisms that lead to hate drafting as well as tile placement so I guess it's no surprise that both **Patchwork** and **Azul** top my list. This game has great table presence too which never hurts.

3 - **The Quacks of Quedlinburg** - it's just such silly fun! The bag building is well implemented but really what keeps me coming back to Quacks is that push your luck element.

4 - **Architects of the West Kingdom** - it was hard to rank this one because I've only managed to play it once so far. But that one game was up there amongst the most fun I've ever had playing a board game for the first time. It's a really clever worker placement game, perhaps my favourite one, though **Targi** gives it some competition. I think **Architects of the West Kingdom** could climb as high as #2 on this list but I'm not comfortable putting it up there just yet.

5 - **Cartographers** - always a casual good time. This game was my first non **Yahtzee** exposure to the roll/flip and write genre. It's great. I play it quite often and it has held up well to many plays.

6 - **Res Arcana** - I'm hoping this game will climb up higher after a few more plays. I've played it a handful of times and for whatever reason it still hasn't clicked for me. But I love the concept and the art, and I fully expect to have a blast playing this once I've wrapped my head around it a bit more. 

7 - **Viticulture** - I think this game is wonderful but suffers in comparison to **Architects of the West Kingdom**, I played them both on the same day. I'm excited to play **Viticulture** again but it didn't wow me to the same extent as **Architects of the West Kingdom**. 

8 - **Wingspan** - I'll give **Wingspan** credit because of all the overt engine building games I've played, it's the one where I most quickly understood the engine. It's a gorgeous game with fun game play but not a favourite of mine.

9 - **7 Wonders Duel** - I feel kind of sad having **7 Wonders Duel** so low on my list. I love fun open drafting mechanics. Bruno Cathala is my favourite designer. But I don't know, this one doesn't do it for me. Maybe I'll enjoy it more as time goes on. I'm still excited and motivated to play it again. For me confusing iconography can really impede my enjoyment of a game. When I compare the iconography of this game to other games on this list that are heavy in iconography, I find this one has the worst use of iconography. I'm constantly having to refer back to the rule book when I play this game which gets in the way of immersing myself in the experience. 

10 - **The Crew** - I've played through a bunch of the earlier missions at two players. I don't know if trick taking games are just not my thing, if this game really suffers at two players or if it will improve as the missions become increasingly more complicated. But so far we've accomplished every mission on the first attempt and I find it pretty dull.

Final thoughts: it's interesting to me how my rankings are almost in reverse order to the BGG rankings. I tend to prefer lighter games and love abstracts. I find BGG skews heavy and doesn't tend to favour abstracts (**Azul** is the top abstract game on BGG and only clocks in at 53 in the overall rankings!), so it's not too surprising that games like **Patchwork**, **Azul** and **Cartographers** are ranked a bit lower on BGG.

Here's one: what are the #1 and #2 highest ranked games on Board Game Geek that you used to love but no longer play? Either because you've become board with them, feel like you've solved the puzzle, or are just taking a break from them, which excellent games sit on your shelf but are currently destined to just stay there?

For me, #1 is **Azul** (#55). I love it, but I never pull it down any more because for the most part, I feel like I've solved it. I still enjoy it, it's still highly-ranked on my personal list, but I don't often pull it down any more unless I want to show it to people who haven't played it.

My #2 is **Pandemic** (#105). I've played this game to death and it's still a great co-op game but to me it's been surpassed by so many other great co-op games. But I can't bring myself to send it on to its next owner because I feel like every board game collection should have a copy...

One of my favorites!

 Cards are slightly longer and more narrow than standard cards, so take that into consideration when selecting (optional) plastic sleeves.  I'm amazed at how well everything was designed. The side of the board has a puzzle piece type link, that allows you to quickly setup for 1-4 players. There are also optional tiles for a campaign style play and varients that add more advanced placement options

  If you're on the fence (farm reference, he he ho ho) and think you might enjoy this, absolutely get it.

More fun than a pasture full of sheep!

 I didn't anticipate that to tie the tree, and so hopefully i can grow a garden in the future. Yeah plus, that's that's uh. You know take away a minus one point right there. Maybe i should take first, but the thing you want to take first, when you think the next uh round is going to be the grow, your family member, that's not happening right now

 So i'm going to play this fence delivery mint, so it says add: 6 and 10 to the current round place. Four of your fences on each corresponding round uh 10 plus, would be the end of the game or beyond the end of the game. So, let's just add six to the current round, so we are in round what is it eight we're in round eight yeah yeah so plus four, the very final round? Yeah you push it to the limit yeah. Well, i'm thinking here's my thought process

 So, at the start of the game, this spot here is available. It allows you to take one grain and grain. Are these yellow disks? If i were to do this, i put it off to the side because they do not immediately get planted in order for me to plant them in my fields somewhere in stage one. I think it was this card

Bower's Game Corner

 With a board game that requires parental oversight to be usable, it's either too guided to learn by trial-and-error, or it becomes frustrating quickly and the kids give up.  I hate that this review sounds so harsh since I truly love what this game is trying to do but I just don't see it working well because of how much parental oversight it requires. Note: I had my daughters try out web-based computer teaching games and they took to it much quicker and could solve problems they struggled with on the board game.

Good if you have the time to work with your kids on it, not so much for self-play

 But anyway getting off on a tangent those are the real cons I have not going to be for big strategy gamers or gaming groups or anything like that this is purely for kids. Moving on to the pros though Robot Turtles I saw it on Kickstarter which it absolutely tore up Kickstarter and they instantly appealed to my heart I'm a preschool teacher they said this is for ages 3 and up and I was like I'm getting a copy of this game I got it I brought it in my classroom and let me tell you this game went over like gangbusters they loved it they went crazy for this game it got to the point where I said alright I'm not bringing it in for a week because I'm sick of playing it with you guys because they wanted to play it so much. They're all aged from 3 to 5 and you can definitely see one thing I loved about this game was you can make it more or less complex based on how advanced the children are but a lot of the times I would have 3 year olds playing and I would have 5 year olds playing and I could set up the 5 year old side of the board to be more tricky and I could set up the 3 year old side of the board to be pretty clear and it really adds a nice deal of customization there so you can really play this with children anywhere from I'd say ages 3 to 6, 7 and you're kind of pushing it. They're going to have a lot of fun with this game

 Next, you are going to have stone walls and you are going to have ice walls. Now the stone walls, once you set them there, they are an obstacle. You slap and you say bug and that means that you get to redo your maneuver so let's pretend you turn this way you get to redo that so you move it back and then you can take the yellow card and move that. But any who you are going to try and get to your gem and once everyone has got to their gem you can all have a big old hug and say hooray Billy you got your turtle to your gem because turtles need gems

 Ahoy there, YouTube, I'm back again today for another game review.

 Today I'm checking out Robot Turtles from ThinkFun.

 Ages three and up, it'll take about five to fifteen minutes to play, and in Robot Turtles

 players will be steering around turtles, shooting lasers, melting ice, trying to get the jewels.

 Alright then, we're going to take a look at what you're going to get inside of Robot Turtles.

 First and foremost we've got our handy dandy rule booklet, which what, it doesn't have

 When I opened this up I was excited to get it, and this really soured me at first.

 The other thing that kind of bugged me was that half of this rule booklet is literally

 just thanking backers, but they got so many backers I guess that's kind of necessary since

 Other than, aside from the staple issue, the rule booklet is pretty well done, it's pretty

 easy to understand, it's a very simple game.

 One thing I like about the rule booklet is they really have it so when you start off

 and it's really easy mode and they can make it progressively more difficult and more difficult
