Especially on this x-pac version, I would expect this more so than the normal version. The front zipper uses YKK aquaguard with a bit of reflective material on the pull tab, which uses aer's minimalistic design. the front is very slim and fits flatter things like your keys.

 When I saw the City Sling release in x-pac material though, I new I had to go for it. Initial impressions are that it’s a very compact and organized.

 For a small sling, I’ve just bought the AER City Sling 2. Reasonable price from A UK stockist. It’s small, hugs the body and looks classy.

I have a bunch of backpacks, and a couple of briefcase-style bags/satchels, and a smaller messenger bag.  I'd like something to replace the old messenger bag, and I'm pretty set on a sling bag. 

I've read a pile of reviews, looking at things like the Fjallraven Greenland Pocket, the Bellroy City Pouch Plus, and the Are Day Sling Max.  

What I can't quite visualise is the size of these things; I really want something that can be small and compact, close to me for when I'm out on holiday just carrying wallet, phone etc, but maybe with space for expanding when I'm carrying more.  

Most I would generally carry would be AirPods Max and a Nintendo Switch in a small case; I could probably still use the messenger bag I have if I needed to carry a tablet or laptop.

Any recommendations?  I look at some and with photos of them with a phone in them, I worry that AirPods Max in their charging case wouldn't fit.

Sling Bag Recommendations

The material is what swung the decision for me. Hearing the CPL is a dust and fur magnet with two dogs in the house is what was the deciding factor. I’m a big fan of X-Pac after getting my Aer City Sling.

I bought both of these bags during Black Friday and both seem great and have seemingly minor differences, which makes it even harder to pick one! Can anyone who has experience with either of these two bags want to give their input?  

I am looking for a bag for business travel as well as backpacking style leisure travel (casual Euro trips in hostels). A few things that have come up for me when trying on each of these bags:

* Able Carry Max has a "work compartment". Do business travelers actually use these? This doesn't seem entirely necessary if my work lives entirely on my laptop

* How is the waterproofing for these bags? 
    * The Max uses X-Pac which seems waterproof, but a few reddit posts say this material wears down quickly. 

    * The CPL28 says it uses waterproofing nylon. Has anyone gotten caught in the rain with their CPL and found it dry on the inside afterwards?
 
* Do these bags fit under an airplane seat comfortably when fully packed? The Max has less form, so it gets rounder and rounder when full, whereas the CPL keeps its square shape.


* The CPL doesn't have anywhere to put security locks on its zippers (I guess you can put a lock around the fabric loops tied to the zippers?). However I don't know how useful this feature actually is as i've never been accosted while traveling before

Help me narrow it down - Able Carry Max vs CPL28

 The interior liner—and this applies to all the compartments—is a fairly bright grey for good visibility. Weather protection remains great for the most part, with twin reverse-coil YKK zippers keeping the elements at bay. 

Such is the case of the subject of this review: the City Sling 2. It’s grown in size, slimmed down its strap, got a shiny new Fidlock magnet, and is now more comfortable to wear. We think the improvements make this a better sling overall, and Aer’s even given it pouch-like capabilities. There’s actually a lot to go through, as we’ll be making some comparisons with the original City Sling

The City Sling 2 shares most of its DNA with the rest of Aer’s lineup, both in terms of aesthetic and material. We’ve flipped through this sling inside and out, and there’s no denying that Aer has kept their magic—this is one solid-feeling sling. The way they’ve put together 1680D CORDURA Ballistic Nylon and YKK zippers makes the whole sling feel very structured. Even when empty, it doesn’t collapse like a wet paper bag

Our biggest takeaway from the City Sling 2 is how well Aer addressed all of the cons of the original City Sling. It wears comfortably, the zippers aren’t jingly, and the elastic strap keepers are a welcome addition. Noteworthy changes like these are what we like to see. We like the original City Sling, and the City Sling 2 just makes us like it even more

 I eventually returned it for a few reasons, none of which I can really blame Maxpedition for (I have a few of their products and am really happy with them) but more for personal preference. The first is that the bag is a bit large on my frame (5'7'', wide) and hung rather low on me. The biggest concern I had with it is the dual compression straps you have to undo every time you want to access the main compartment. I really wanted something I could get into and out of quickly, and this just wasn't it

But if you're larger than I am and don't plan on accessing the main compartment on a regular basis, it's built to last (like all Maxpedition stuff) and will likely last you a lifetime.

Might be right for some, but not me

 The heavy duty fast X, buckles again, are not going to come apart unless you actuate them. I liked the over-the-counter over-the-counter I liked the over-the-shoulder design so that, unlike two straps over one, shoulder like with a backpack, this can go over my head and across the other, shoulder making it less likely. It might fall off of me and damage my laptop, so strength was a was a big factor for me. As I mentioned, I like the single strap design when I'm pulling it out of the car

 So let's say you're on a day hike you have the waist strap on, but it's not taking all the weight off your shoulders and the ones that the single strap is resting on a single shoulder. Well, let's say after a half an hour you'd like to even out the load and put it on your other shoulder. You can't do that with this pack, but perhaps Mathemagician could install like a zipper here or some attachment method here or maybe have one of these on both sides of the pack and then have this a clip attachment to the strap so that, if you wanted, you Can move it from this attachment corner to that attachment corner? That way would be ambidextrous you even the load and it'd be great for left-handed folks. Another thing that I don't like is how it adjusts for my body size now, I'm roughly 511 and 170, and so I'm a medium size and just about everything all my shirts jackets things like that or medium, so my body type might fit many of you guys

 I thought that looked a little bit cheesy, so I abandoned that. But the point still remains that it'd be nice to have some reflective options. A final reason is, let's say, you're doing some day hiking, but you slip and fall down into a ravine or some other place off the trail. You'Re injured you can't come out having some reflective piping might help search rescue folks find you another thing I dislike about

 There is something that I'll come back to on things that I don't like regarding the single strap design. So I'll come back to that. Another thing that drew me to the monsoon is what I consider a cool shape. It'S an unusual, it's not cubical or rectangular

Maxpedition Monsoon 5 Year Review - Part 1

 The strap is supposed to secure both pockets and barely does. Maxpedition could of done better here. The second pocket (behind the mesh pocket) has an open top. My hands are sized large and cannot easily penetrate the top of that pocket

 Undo the clip and the flap folds down to reveal a mesh pocket and compartment behind it. Both are secured by a single Velcro strap that can barely do it's job. The strap is supposed to secure both pockets and barely does. Maxpedition could of done better here

 That would be OK if it was that simple, but you do have to undo the front clip, undo the compression straps and undo the zippers. A little more involved than I would like. The top of the zippered flap does not terminate to completely seal this compartment either. While Maxpedition claims the top shield/flap is a plus, it's required if that compartment is to be water and dust free

 Getting to the front sealed compartment can be a project. Some have said it's as simple as undoing the compression straps. That would be OK if it was that simple, but you do have to undo the front clip, undo the compression straps and undo the zippers. A little more involved than I would like

Could of been the ultimate Gearslinger

  * Sitka (15L) - I could not comfortably fit a standard 13" laptop inside this and immediately returned it (and the side water holder add on). This pack, in terms of storage and organization, would have been the equivalent of simply doubling the size of my Noatak, so I really really wanted it to work. Tablet would very likely fit.  * Monsoon (16L) - I stayed away from this initially because the teardrop shape seemed odd, I was wrong

 Now you have these two straps now there's two ways you can do these trap these straps, you can either run them like. I have them under the main flap or you can take them out of here and run them over the top, and I found that I liked them under here a little bit better because they weren't in the way. However, if I wanted to carry like a hoodie or a lightweight jacket or something, then I can bring those straps to the outside and I can put that jacket under those straps there and it worked out really really well all right. So the main compartment and those just cross over and go like that, and then you have your main compartment without two zippers and it's kind of a teardrop triangle shape, and it opens up very, very wide all right

 It'S super comfortable and breathable. You can see these these lines here. It will vary, it'll, breathe, very, very well all right. So let's go to this side

 So you've got male attachments here. You'Ve got three straps and you've got velcro, strap in the middle. As you see, I've just got this patch on here, but you've got that velcro for that you've got a d-ring, a heavy-duty plastic d-ring here got the Maxpedition logo and that's pretty much it up front under the buckle. You have

 These compartments. You'Ve got just a little mesh little pocket here. You'Ve got a little clip for your keys and you've got a little velcro closure now this pocket here it goes all the way down and it's down here, but the velcro will actually close up all of those spots. So it'll close up and kind of keep everything protected
