 But I found the solution myself, and the drive works fine. Yes, can get hot, but I am not a super heavy duty user.  Attached is the speed test I did compared to my XPS15 9570 internal (Toshiba) SSD. The XTRM Q 1TB is very fast! If Sabrent had reasonable tech support, I would give 5 Stars

I use the product with mini USB cooling fan (photo). For tough work it helps to avoid overheating (in this case, it consumes USB and thunderbolt outlet). Performance indicated was obtained hooking to thunderbolt-4 notebook. For stable connection with windows, recommend most updated version

  With this drive I am seeing 2,200 Read speeds and 186.7 write. I TURN OFF the W10 caching in the Device Manager. I want my drives to push the data through right away, even if it appears slow, not have MS play games using my system memory and cache to make the drives SEEM faster

This thing is screaming fast! I copied 100gb in a couple of minutes

Good choice on HDD, the Western Digital Black are said to be good for 20 years, that is way better than you’ll get out of any SSD, reason enough (I have an 8TB Black myself).

For my digital listening, I have a WD Black 5TB HDD which goes through my rPi (running Volumio) and then to my DAC etc.   
Would different types of storage units make a difference to the sound at all? Would SSD be better than an HDD? I've always been a bit curious but never seen it discussed.

I have 6 x 6tb Western Digital red. I have been happy with them for the last 2 years, one failed about 3 months ago. I replaced it with a seagate ironwolf NAS drive and intend replacing them all with seagate as they fail.

As I described above, I want to build a home NAS, I have the Raspberry Pi 4 already, but I don't know what hard drive I should get. I have used Western Digital for a very long time, so probably I choose this brand. 

Reading the reviews I got confused what kind of recording technology should this HDD should have. (SMR or CMR) Does it matter at all with a Raspberry Pi?

Building a home media center (NAS) with a Raspberry Pi 4. I can't decide what kind of hard drive I should get. Please help me!

For the most part &ndash; and we mean almost entirely &ndash; the WD Black SN750 features the same memory architecture and utilizes the same NVMe controller as its predecessor. Like the Black NVMe SSD, the company once again went with a small amount of SLC (Single Level Cell) 64-layer 3D NAND to handle the brunt of quick data transfers and funnel all that information to its slower, but more robust Triple Level Cell (TLC) 3D NAND for, well, storage.

What has changed is WD has introduced an improved version of its firmware to speed up its latest drive. Strangely, though the company won&rsquo;t be serving up the new firmware to owners of its previous WD Black NVMe SSD.

WD is pricing its fastest drive to be aggressively affordable and at an even lower cost than its previous Black NVMe SSD, which we thought was already very reasonably priced last year. You&rsquo;ll find the WD Black SN750 starting at $79 (about &pound;60, AU$110) for a 250GB capacity drive. From there, the 500GB SN750 goes for $129 (about &pound;100, AU$179) and 1TB for $249 (about &pound;190, AU$350).

Those faster write cycles ultimately allow the WD Black SN750 to copy both our 10GB folder and 10GB file in the shortest times we&rsquo;ve recorded. This should, in turn, make this SSD a perfect choice for creatives and media producers who need a fast writing drive to keep up with their production.

Darker than black

  The root of the issue is the payload size. By default it should use a payload size of 256 bytes as is standard with the PCIe 3.0 standard, but instead the drive will use 128 bytes, this causes read speeds to drop below 3.2GB/s and writes to remain under 1

2GB/s. This testing was also done with the gaming mode enabled in the WD dashboard software which disables certain latency harming power states within the SSD during inconsistent burst workloads.  The WD SN850 also had this issue but they released a firmware update that fixes it, thus restoring full performance even when using chipset lanes. The issue is at least from what I have gathered from reaching out to their support, is they are no longer working on firmware updates for the SN750 (likely unless enough customers complain about it), to get them to apply the fix that they did to the SN850, to the SN750

  The WD SN850 also had this issue but they released a firmware update that fixes it, thus restoring full performance even when using chipset lanes. The issue is at least from what I have gathered from reaching out to their support, is they are no longer working on firmware updates for the SN750 (likely unless enough customers complain about it), to get them to apply the fix that they did to the SN850, to the SN750.  My attached benchmark results are from the drive using the 128 bytes payload size as it is connected to my second m.2 slot on an Asus X570-E Strix

Great performance but there is one catch due to a firmware issue

 But you do get a 5 year warranty so that's good but if you are highly concerned about your data you might want to look more deeply into this.  Overall: I give this ssd 3/5 stars. I got this as a gift but if I had paid the whole 70 dollars I would be pretty upset. It is not as high performance as it is marketed and I did not see a huge difference over the sata ssd

Review of WD Black SSD.  I purchased this as a replacement for my MX500, it cost 70 dollars and then was reduced to 62 and is 70 dollars now. At 70 dollars it is an okay deal, at 62 it is a much better deal. When I first upgraded my computer and I did not know much about ssd and purchased a mx500 m

 The best thing you can do is install SSD fresh if you are not savvy with this stuff and it will do a check list for you. This software is free

 But on AA SSD it reads around 3,000 and and writes around 2,500 so it is not quite as fast as advertised. I can't say what WD did but I wouldn't doubt they gauged those performance marks on the most popular ssd benchmark.  Windows 10 boots up slightly faster, about 2 seconds faster for 9.5 seconds

  UPDATE: The original drive seems to just have been a bad drive. Talked to Amazon support and got a replacement. Everything seems to be working great on my computer now. Updating from 1 star to 4 stars based on performance

All in all, I would strongly suggest this NVMe, the performance is on par with all the high end PCIe 3.0 Gen 4 drives, and the cooling is better in most cases.  *UPDATE* For those of you who have read this far, I bought an addon PCIe 3

I will likely be upgrading my GPU next, to a RTX 2060S, as the last piece until I do a new build(which I will be bringing the GPU and NVMe to the new build, thus the pricey investments in worthwhile hardware for such an old build currently).
