A dollop of 100% silicone on the shaft and shoving it back in would help retain. Though that's silicone rubber (white bit) and nothing sticks well to it...the goal here would be to have minimal adhesion but also friction to keep it from falling out. Of course, other tapes could be used. Could also superglue or epoxy - but unsure if this part is replaceable or intended to be removable.
