GE Geospring Heat Pump Hot Water Heater GEH50DNSRSA

Broken

Owned for 10 years, used Daily

Stress Points
Control Board partially failed after about 8 years, on a 10 year HWH. GE sold their Heat Pump HWH line to Bradford White. After BW acquired GE’s line they stopped making ANY parts for it. This was at least 5 years before the warranty was up. When my board initially stopped working, there were no replacements available from anyone, even used ones on eBay.

Most common failure on this model by far was the evaporator coil, but I did not have this issue. Over a 2 year period my display stopped working correctly showing only garbage, then the left side panel buttons stopped responding, finally the whole thing started flipping out cycling the compressor on/off every 2 seconds and flashing random lights on the panel. The control board is the common failed component for all of this.

Now I have to spend $2,400 for a replacement HWH over a $200 part being unavailable. BW is honoring the tank warranty, but I have to float the full cost for a replacement that I only need because they stopped making parts within the warranty. Should have bought a Rheem or AO Smith.
Would you buy it again?
