Dishwasher doors often have two rubber parts on each side of the door hinge to slow opening through friction. These parts can break and stop working, but are easily replaced after pulling the dishwasher out a few inches away from the wall. Search for "Dishwasher Sleeve Friction Pad".

Do research. If you can figure how to slide unit out , the door mechanism will be revealed and can be simple to understand. The closer on mine was springs attached to nylon rope & pullies ..
