I Think its combat is excellent, and in particular its body targeting system is extremely intelligent and highly functional.

Lululemon Surge 4in Shorts w. liner - I found the best shorts (for me). Not only did I get a beautiful thru-hiker high thigh tan, but they felt barely there. The liner thigh pocket was very handy seeing as I already struggled with pocket space. These are now my go to running and hiking shorts.

Lululemon Surge lined shorts (shorts, working out, swimming, they're awesome). Swim trunks (should have bought another pair of Surge shorts and dumped these). I'm generally a pants person, only wear shorts when absolutely necessary. The Surge shorts are awesome though and dry quicker than my swim trunks.

The second generation Surge has a production run of 2013 to present. The current generation of the Surge features replaceable wire cutters. My copy of the second generation Surge dates to 2013 when they started to hit the market.

I'd suggest the Surge. It's larger, and feels more capable when doing "real work". Plus the changeable saw blade is really handy.

I would have liked if the admin pocket zippers were a little easier to unzip one handed but it will be fine. I could have made use of maybe 1 more admin pocket somewhat like the new Surge has, but I wasn't willing to give up my front stretchy pocket. Also, the Surge isn't available here in Australia for some reason. I already knew this bag wasn't the best at standing on its own despite being better than previous iterations.

I'm currently using a 2021 TNF Surge which has been overall pretty good. I really like the organization, capacity is great, fantastic separate laptop/tablet storage, great side water bottle pockets, and good construction.
