Never let a blank white wall go to waste! We haven't turned on our TV since.
Wall is actually sanded and smooth, but could use better paint for projecting. "Screen" is around 155in. A convenient bookshelf on the opposite wall made this all too easy with an Epson 3800 and lens shift. There are a lot of things that aren't ideal, or budget in this room/setup, but it's still been absolutely amazing and a lot of fun.

Replaced my Epson 3700 to go 4K. Was it worth it? Absolutely!
I purchased an Epson 3700 in 2016 and I have been very happy with it. I have a 150" wall screen in my great room with plenty of ambient light have had no issues. I use it for sports, news, movies, and 3d (the surprise impressive feature, I now own 100+ 3d movies). I've been reluctant to make the jum...

Does a 4K matter for a projector? Difference between "true" 4k and pixel shifting 4k projectors, that really matter?
But! The Epson projectors have way better contrast. The 5050 is pretty close in contrast to the Sony 295ES and actually has better black levels on super dark scenes because it has a dynamic iris and the Sony doesn’t. The Epson 3800 has 2x the native contrast of comparative DLP projectors in its price range.

So I just recently moved to my new house where I have a rather large (dark) basement that is ideal for gaming and watching movies. I have been looking around this sub and loads of review sites in order to determine the best projector for this use. I have (so far) narrowed it down to the Epson 3800 or the new BenQ TK700STi.

Cheap 4K - bright, loud, and kinda blurry.
This projector is bright. I did not notice color issues or bluish tint when using dynamic. HDR looked good. The lens on this projector is a problem. When fully zoomed out, there is a clear difference in the focus. You are not able to focus the entire picture. If you have text on a screen at the top ...

Benq HT3550 Questions
I would look at the Epson 3800 if you’re set on “4K”. That would totally be bright enough. If you’re set on Benq then look at the X1300i or TK850. Those would work much better for a backyard projector.
Upgrading from Viewsonic 1080P to a 4K ("fake 4K" is fine)
Can you go larger? 110" would be the starting recommendation but I think 120" would probably be great. The Epson 3800 has the best contrast in this range but isn't as sharp and lacks a bit in color.

Definitely an upgrade from my old Optoma HD27 1080p DLP projector
Update: I upgraded my receiver to a Yamaha 385 and my HTPC graphics card to a Geforce 1650 and a couple 8k rated 3ft hdmi cables for the computer and my PS4. NOW I am running full 4k HDR signal from my computer and not surprisingly I had to re-calibrate the picture. It looked terrible with the setti...

Epson 3800 upconversion
Just received my Complete Six Million Dollar Man box dvd set. The Epson 3800 does a heck of a job up converting ntsc material on dvd.

Is using a sound bar dumb for projectors?
I just got my Epson 3800 over the weekend, and it's hooked up to a sound bar via the audio out jack on the projector. I originally tried using the bluetooth connection, but the audio sync lag was awful.
